    1. [VAHANOVE] McGehee/Crutchfield
    2. I have been on the Digest mode but have now switched to the regular one. I have been looking for 47 years for my only brick wall Milton N.McGehee. I have amassed a huge collection of McGehee info in VA TN KY ALA NC and more . I am not on a PC but on a web tv so have to store everything in paper files. When I decided to try the Hanover list it was a sort of desperate attempt and one last try. It is a hard county to find info in. But I had found a hint of my Milton being there . I have so much on him and all his connected family from 1834 in Wilson Co TN and to Henry Co and then finally to Weakley Co TN. But I could never find his parents. Then I read the Digest last night and the info from Lyn Washington and my heart leapt right out of my chest. I believe you have found my Miltons family for sure. I can hardly write this as I am so excited. I hope there is no limit on the length of a post as I want to fill you all in on what I have .It connected quite a few names to Hanover Co.And maybe will help someone else. I will list what I have and can prove and then you all can see if it fits with your info. Milton N.McGehee b.1810-1816 in VA.Age listed on only census(1840) I have for him . Appeared in Wilson Co TN in 1834 married Lydia Alexander .Bondsman R.H.Thompson. Next married 1837 to Mary Drollinger dau of John and Mary (McCulloch) Drollinger.John had died before 1836 leaving Mary with many children. The bondsman for Milton was Wm Pillow.(Rev War) They stayed until the fall of 1839. Then entire family plus daughters of Mary Drollinger who married Nooners also of VA and Quakers ,plus James Phelps and wife who was a dau of Drollinger and Thompsons ,Landrums,Crutchfields,Tylers ,Barnett Brightwell and more all related and all sold their land and went to Weakley Co TN. They settled in a tiny place (where I was born) called Public Wells. It is still there but not on the map. The Rowletts of P.E.Co VA also went there about same time. Archibald Rowlett married to Guthrie/Guthrey.His sister Nancy married a James Miles of Halifax Co .She was widowed in 1848 so Archie went and got her in 1849 and brought her with her 7 kids to Public Wells. More on all this in next post. Milton and his wife Mary were on the 1840 census and also on the 1843 and 1845 tax lists. Mary shown owning 1 slave .Milton none. On 1845 tax it is all in Miltons name. Mary died in Childbirth on Dec 22 1845 with my gr-grandfather John Calvin McGehee. James Phelps and wife raised him.Milton had remarried a 3rd time to Anna Hooper in July 1846 and then a tree fell on him in Oct 1846 His dau Virginia who was 8 in 1845 went to live with Grandmother Mary Drollinger. 2 other children a boy Benjamin born 1842 and a girl Mary were raised by James Polk Tyler (wife a McGehee?) and the Tylers moved up to near Fulton KY just over the line from Weakley.More on them later. Milton and Mary are burried in the Cruchfield/Rowlett cemetery in Public Wells. The Drollingers and most of the grown children moved to Paragould Ark by 1857. My John Calvin stayed in Public Wells bought land from the Miles and married 1865 to Mary Susan Miles. They had 9 boys and 1 girl. . One of these boys is my grandfather Joseph Lee McGehee. The Lee name is used thru out the sons and other families as a middle name. I will end this now with these names all mentioned in Hanover .Crutchfield-Tyler -Foster-Golding(Gaulding?) Lee,Hooper, etc. If you recognize any more of the surnames listed above please let me know. And I need any more on these John -Joseph etc McGehees you listed in last post.Joseph who married a Crutchfield could have had more children then you list as there is a big gap in the ages of children listed. Also he could be son of Joseph brother John McGhee. Do you have wife of this John or any more info on him? Remember the name McGehee-McGhee-McGee are inter-changeable . The clerks or transcribers regularly mixed them up.We have 189 mispellings for McGehee. The name is pronounced McGee so it was easy to mispell. My Milton was educated and clearly on several occations wrote his name McGehee. Thank you so much. Pat
