Hi......My source is primarily a long handwritten " book" by Judge Leon Bazile which I had copied from the VHS files........It seems to me Bazile was writing a book and this was a draft or notes etc. These Sheriffis in the 1780-1790 -1800 period had extreme problems collecting taxes in the post Revolutionary period......Many lawsuits.......Judgements in favor of the Commonwealth......Petitions to the Commonwealth involving as I recall the Sheriffs of 57 counties or was it 57 petitions..........A very serious problem My interest is in Richard Littlepage who was a deputy first under Geddes Winston and continuing to about 1789-1790........One lawsuit describes his "nefarious" practice of deferring collection where the taxpayer agreed to pay any interest or penalty.....But as could be expected, he wasn't very successful and lost all he had and as I conclude took much of the Littlepage family down with him. Any more on this matter would be gratefully appreciated.....
