    1. [VAHANOVE] Wm. Callis
    2. Dear Subscribers, It seems that some subscriber was inquiring about the surname Callis. This from Rosalie Edith Davis, LOUISA COUNTY, VIRGINIA TITHABLES AND CENSUS, 1743-1785 [Manchester, MO: Published by author, 1988], p. 90 [Louisa Co.] OB 1782-83 [order book] (p. 111) Sheriff to credit Wm. Callis with his personal tax it appearing to the court that he is an officer with Continental Line. Comment: If the subscriber can got a copy of the original court order (from film, of course), a lineage society would probably accept this court order as proof of service of Wm. Callis during the Revolutionay War. Did this person apply for a pension ca. 1832 or earlier? E.W.Wallace

    3. Virginia, Thank you for the info on Nancy Bowe. The Nancy I have was supposedly born Bet. 1781-1783 & died Nov. 27, 1865 & was married to Charles Tyler. Don't know if that is the same one or not unless she remarried after Charles passed away in 1853. Yes, Chapman Timberlake is in my line and was married to Letitia Browning. I have a total of nine children for them, including Chapman Jr. b.1843 The other Timberlake is Mary Ann Elizabeth Timberlake b.1816 d.Aug 4, 1889 who married John Pettus Tyler (they are my gr-gr-grandparents) b.1815 d. Sept 28, 1878 and married Feb.28, 1839 in Hanover,VA and had a total of 10 children. Thanks for this info! He married Letitia (?) and there was a Chapman, Jr. There's a Mary Timberlake, wife in 1855 of John P. Tyler. There's lots of Timberlakes in this book, but don't tell anyone, ok? ;-) ~Virginia << Yes indeed interesting! I have nothing more on Nancy Bowe, but wonder if she & Hector couldn't have been siblings. Timing & area are both good matches. Do you have any other info on Hector's parents or siblings? Sure would be neat to find a connection!
