    1. [VAHANOVE] Another cemetery in Hanover County dug up/remains removed
    2. I don't know if any of you know if you have a family cemetery located in/around the Pebblecreek Subdivision in Mechanicsville area of Hanover County or not. This evening on one of the local television stations it was reported that the remains of over 100 people were being dug up, placed into vaults and removed for at least two new homes to be built in this subdivision. I'm digging into this a little further because of information I became made aware of privately over 2 1/2 years ago, but if anyone has any specifics they wouldn't mind sharing with me, PLEASE get in touch with me privately. It sure does make it hard for anyone to continue to research their own family genealogy when family members' final resting places are never final. Sheri Millikin

    1. [VAHANOVE] "William Norvell (1746-1794) of Hanover Co., VA."
    2. RE the book "William Norvell (1746-1794) of Hanover Co., VA." Is there any mention in the book of a relative, Elizabeth Norvell who might have married a Goodall? I have this citation: IN 1802 Parke Goodall, son of William Goodall and Elizabeth Goodall mentioned in Will of William Norvell, James City County. I know that the William Norvell of Hanover County was acquainted with the Parke Goodall of Hanover County, so there must be a connection to this second family.

    2. Terri, What a generous offer! If you don't mind, would you look & see if there is a Thomas A. Norvell (b. approx 1810-1820) listed. All I know is he married Elizabeth ? and know of one child, Cornelia Frances Norvell b. 1845 in Buckingham Co, VA. Cornelia married David W. Stinson Nov. 2, 1865 in Buckingham,Va. I'm wondering if, by chance, the Norvell family may have had some earlier roots in Hanover Co. Thanks a bunch!! 1. [VAHANOVE] Alverson of Beaver Dam Creek
    2. You mentioned that James Alverson of the Alverson family of Mychunk-Beaver Dam creek area went early to Kentucky. I have what is called the 1795 Census of Kentucky by TLC Genealogy, Miami Beach. One James Alverson is listed as a taxable in 1795 in Madison Co., KY. Many Virginians from the Albemarle Co. and Orange Co. areas of Virginia (and of course from other parts) were in Eastern Kentucky at an early time. Many books of Madison Co. records have been published in the last few years. Perhaps you are familiar with them. Madison Co. encompassed what are about six KY counties at the present time. Also, LDS has the Madison Co. grantor and grantee deed indexes, all nicely typed, and you MAY want to check out those to see what Alversons and allied families are listed. Commissioners deeds also have to do with the division of property after the death of a land-holder. I have found few birth records for early Virginians. Occasionally a record will exist. Beverly Fleet (a man, now deceased) did some early baptismal records for Northern Neck Virginia, and in Goochland Co., there is what is called the Douglas Register kept by a Rev. Douglas. Also, there are few pre-Revolutionary marriage records. Where they exist, consider yourself extremely lucky. When I want to know what MAY exist in the way of records for a county, I access the LDS online catalog on their website: www.familysearch.org The link to the catalog is on the lower right. Just above it is a link to a list of over 3,000 family history centers around the world. If a record has been filmed, most of the time, for a small fee, you can borrow that film for a limited time from Salt Lake City. Many old books have been filmed by LDS. E.W.Wallace California Thanks for the info on Beaver Dam creek. I hope you saw some of the answers of our geographer friends.

    1. [VAHANOVE] Mechunk Creek and Nathaniel Williams (reportedly born 1712)
    2. I thank all of the subscribers who have pointed me in the right direction to find Mechunk Creek on my DeLorme Atlas pages. I knew you would help!!! My umpteen great-uncle Nathaniel Williams must have removed from that area prior to the Revolution. His sons were in various places in NC and VA, according to family tradition. This was in Revolutionary times. Col. John Williams of Caswell Co. NC Nathaniel Williams of Rockingham Co. NC Robert Williams of Pittsylvania Co. Col. Joseph Williams of Surry Co., NC I can generally find records of these men, including a will or two, but to date I have found no document to link them to their purported father. Thanks all. 3. Mechunk Creek dumps into the Rivanna River at Union Mills in Fluvanna County (around Lake Monticello) Here is a picture http://www.people.virginia.edu/~sok/blackwhite.htm 12 June Lafayette's militia knew of an abandoned back road which many perceived as impassable. By cutting their way through somes sections, his light infantry managed to reach Mechunk Creek, a branch of the Rivanna River in 2 days. [The road has since been called 'The Marquis Road']. Lafayette set up camp at Mechunk Creek, and was joined by some 600 Virginia militia under William Campbell. The location of the camp and the added forces suprised Cornwallis, and discouraged his further ventures towards Charlottsville or Staunton. However, the British raids effectively undermined the credibility of leadrship in Virignia. On 12 June, the legislature elected Thomas Nelson to succeed Jefferson as governor. Jefferson's term had expired 4 June. New item In 1729 he was one of six men granted 12,000 acres at the mouth of Mechunk Creek in Goochland County, Virginia. 2. There are at least two Mechunk (Maucrunk) Creeks in Va. that I have crossed. One is E or SE of Richmond and the other flows in Fluvanna and Albemarle counties at least. It flows southward under interstate Route 64 just west of the Fluvanna line and its tributaries crossing Va. route 22 and the C&O RR (if that is still it's name) between Keswick and Cismont. Its lower reach is roughly parallel to route 616 from Keswick to Boyd Tavern. Crest

    2. My goodness - King & Queen County names - Bagby, Fleet, and Gwathmey !! I truly hope that when you visit the Richmond area, you will include a trip to King & Queen County and see Bruington Baptist Church, if you haven't already. I recently obtained a copy of the history of this wonderful old church, and there are numerous references to the names you are researching. Of special interest to me was a picture of "Miss Olive" Bagby, when she began serving as a Southern Baptist missionary to China in 1915. I knew her in her declining years, and I would chuckle whenever someone would ask her if she happened to know so-and-so. She'd ask, "are they Baptists?" If the answer was no, she would respond, "well, then, I wouldn't know them." So devoted was she to her calling, it was her entire world. The Virginia Baptist Historical Society located on the grounds of the University of Richmond, would also be a tremendous resource for you, if you wish to know more about the contributions of Bagby's, Fleet's, and Gwathmey's. I am a native of neighboring Middlesex County and, yes, a Baptist... :) Beth Maxwell Newport News, Va

    3. Al, How small the world is! I would love to receive a copy of the picture and anything else you come up with. Dr. Vest' s second wife, Dorothy Jeanette Fleet, is of great interest to me. My mother is the great-granddaughter of Dr. William Theophilus FLEET and his wife, Maria Susan BAGBY, of King and Queen County. Her grandfather, William Hamilton FLEET, was one of Dr. FLEET's six surviving children of whom Dorothy Jeanette was the oldest. I am researching this branch of the FLEETs with particular attention to the lives of these six siblings. Coincidentally, my husband and I will be attending a conference in Washington, DC next month and will visit Richmond afterwards. Dr. Vest, both wives and many children are buried at Hollywood cemetery. I wanted to visit there as well as find the house at 2304 East Broad Street where they lived. As it turns out, that house is now a bed and breakfast, called the William Catlin House, and we will be staying there during our visit. The genealogy gods seem to be smiling on me at the moment. I will send my mailing address separately. Thank you so much for your generous offer.
