Sheri, Can you find any Attkisson/Atkisson/Atkinson (clerks spelt it every which way) in the 1850 Hanover census? I have the tax payers, but missing the census. Thanks, Jim Atkisson

http://members.aol.com/ssprad25/ViaPages/Index.html Someone on the Hanover list was inquiring about Via family. Try the above URL. Maybe you will find a cousin. Sharing is the way to get things straight in this crazy hobby. I was messing about on the URL www.familysearch.org , as explained on a recent class session on this URL and found a link to U of Michigan website, which has links to all kinds of genealogy-oriented websites. And keep exploring the LDS website--there are census forms, I am told, some guides to Accelerated Indexing System (AIS) (a consolidated census index through 1850 on hundreds of microfiche) found in all LDS family history centers, etc. Not enough time in the day to hit all the links! http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt/united_states.html And that is how I stumbled onto the Via family website. Gloria & others, I took a little road trip today to Greenwood Baptist Church on Greenwood Church Road. The church is located approx 2-3 miles from the intersection of Lane's Corner. It is a brick "T-shaped" building and no one was there, so I was unable to get any history on the church bldg itself. There is, however, a small cemetery at the church containing 30-40 headstones. The following is a list of surnames with at least one headstone within this well-maintained fenced-in church cemetery: Lacy Jones Green Johnson Hayes Bradley Mines Clarke Givens Derrick Morris King Bates Boge Thomas Harris The address/phone number for Greenwood Baptist Church is: Rt. 657/Greenwood Church Rd, Ashland,VA 23005 804-752-6414 Hope this helps! Sheri Millikin
Gloria, I checked my 1850 Hanover County VA Census and found: On page 148- Enumeration 5 Dec 1850 Family Number 1009 Lane, Nancy 48 F Richard 16 M Laborer Arabella 14 F It would appear that Nancy is their mother's name and perhaps a widow before 1850 as there is no Lane death notice in this census. The only other info I have going further back is the 1810 Index Virginia Census which lists Jasper Lane and Keziah Lane as Heads of Households in Hanover County. This is more than likely skipping a generation, but may be of some help to you down the road. Thank you so much for the info, Sheri I was wondering why it is called Dick Lane's Corner. My ggggrandmother who lived in the area (Arabella Lane Mallory) after the Civil War had a brother named Richard Lane. I was wondering if there was a connection. According to death records, some of the family was buried at Lanes Corner. All this is leading to confirming the names of Richard and Arabella's parents. I thought researching land records might help. Gloria
Gloria, While I'm thinking about it, there is also a Lang's Corner in Beaverdam at the intersection of Tyler Station Road and Beaverdam Road. There are alot of old homeplaces in that area. Gloria, Dick Lane's Corner is basically the intersection of Routes 657 and 666. These two roads become four roads at this intersection. What I mean by that is Ashcake Road after passing Lane's Corner becomes Ashland Road. This is Route 657. Route 666 changes from Blanton Road to Greenwood Church Road after passing through Lane's Corner. It's not your perfect squared off corner, but rather reminds you of most any typical "country-styled" corner requiring you to make a wide rounding turn in order to turn on one of the other roads. There are homes and farms in the area. Some of the farms are namesd White Oak Farm, Old Field, Maple Leaf Farm. Greenwood Church and a State Police Training Center are in that area as well. Not sure how much this helps. I'm working on getting some additional history of the area for you (and others who may be interested) and will post if/when I hear anything back. Mary, In the book titled, "Hanover County Taxpayers Saint Paul's Parish 1782-1815"... There is no John Gibson listed, but several other Gibsons. There is a William Anthony listed 1794-1795 & 1797 along with several other Anthonys. Only Robert and Samuel Fleming are listed. Several Via's are listed. No Yearman's listed. Sheri Millikin P.S.
