The Jemima B Phillips, age 84, who appears on the 1860 census in Hanover County VA was the widow of Lancelot Phillips. Lancelot Phillips, born 2 April 1797, was the son of William Phillips and Ann Lewis Phillips. Jemima's maiden name was Cosby. Jemima was Lancelot's third wife and they were married on 19 February 1840. Lancelot already had ten children from his two previous wives, Martha Bumpass whom he married on 4 June 1818 and Ann Bumpass (the sister of Martha) whom he married on 8 November 1833. Jemima was about 60 years old when she married Lancelot and she was a wealthy spinster. The other Phillips who appeared in Jemima B. Phillips household on the 1860 census were some of her Phillips stepchildren. Living near Jemima was another stepchild, John W Phillips, age 24, who had recently gotten married to a woman named Martha, age 18. I have some more information on this Phillips family if you or anyone else is interested. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser
Hi, Jenn - Thanks for transcribing all this! I do lookups in NKCo. and know that it takes time to answer and transcribe. I am most interested in the Rebecca, Foster and Thaddeus Higgins in the Chancery Wills & Notes. The other names you give are not familiar. Foster and Rebecca Higgins are my ggggrandparents, and son Thaddeus is my gggrandfather. Please if not too much trouble let me know what is there for this group. Thank you for your generous offer. I am looking for a William E Tyler (Jr & Sr) and a Madison V Tyler who lived in the area of Barker Mill to the Hanover/New Kent line. Madison and his wife had a neice, Maddie Wade, living with them on the 1880 census. These Tylers have been my brick wall for many. many years. They intermarried with the McGhees, Gauldings, & Barkers among others. I am hoping to be able to peice together more information if I can find their burial sites and who they are resting with.

The LVA filmed these a number of decades ago. I know because I hand copied them from date they commenced, 1782, and continued for about 100 years; I don't mean I copied all of the records. I copied each year's list for all the families in which I am interested: Via, Peace and Turner until my branch of the Via family came off to Texas about 1870. I think they are available through interlibrary loan. Or at least I got them through the University of Texas library here in Austin. Janelle Via McKown

They're available through interlibrary loan at your local library. If I remember right, they're not listed in the online list of microfilm available at the Library of Virginia web site, so you just have to specify the county and years that you want. There's no charge at least for people living in Virginia. The tax records are only available on ILL for burned record counties. Jennifer - Sorry I never dreamed there would so many!! I would be more than happy to pay any expenses if you wish to copy these at your convenience and snail mail them... I had no idea there was this information left on these families! Col. John Starke b. 1715 d. Nov 1799 m. 25 May 1735 Anne Wyatt b. Apr 1717 d. 1762, daughter of John Wyatt and Jane 'Jennie' Pamplin. Both families were 2nd and 3rd generation born Virginians. John's father was Thomas b. 1680 - 1690, and his father was John b. 1666 or before in London, but d. Virginia aft 1704. So any of those names are of great interest. Anne Wyatt's father was John b. 1684 Virginia d. 1750 Plain Dealing, Caroline County, Va., his father was Captain John abt 1657 Virginia d. aft 1704 Virginia m. Anne Jones daughter of Rice (Rhys) Jones and Jane Cocke(and I won't go into that family too many). Captain John's father was Maj. William Wyatt b. abt 1627 Essex, England d. abt 1693 St. Stephen's Parish, King & Queen, however probably owned land in what became Hanover and Caroline Counties. His wife's first name was Anna and beyond that I have nothing. I particularly am interested in finding the gravesites, however none are documented, however the Plain Dealing (there was more than one) where John Wyatt, Jr. lived, is now part of the Meadow Farm and owned by the Fair Commission, and although his grave is not marked, his son is buried there, so I feel, without a doubt, Capt. John and Jane Pamplin are buried there too... just we will probably never find the graves. Col. John Starke and Anne Wyatt? no idea although their property was just across the river from Plain Dealing, therefore part of the Meadow Park Hanover location, and probably somewhere on the grounds. This Wyatt family is NOT descended from Haute Wyatt of Jamestown... and so many cannot accept this since it removes the 'royal' connection. However, if anyone would like the documentation, I will more than happy to send it - email me privately. dianessanfilippo303@adelphia.net Thanks for your most generous offer!
