Denise wrote me about ROACH in Halifax at North Carol. line--------Charles, I have just run into my Roach Halifax connection. Do you have any information concerning any Roach's in Halifax or there-abts. At the moment I do not have any Halifax reference material............ Here goes, I am sure some of these surnames may sound familiar to you. I started out with a will of Lewis Kirk 1808 Orange N.C. where a David Roach was witness. I have been attempting to see if this David is related to my James Roach who died 1792 Orange N.C. I had on old document 1773, where a James Roach from Charles City and a David Roach from Halifax Co VA sold land in Charles City. Then I started on my Halifax journey. Sept 20, 1770 James Roach of Caswell N.C. was wit to land sell from Wm Pettypool to David Roach on Aarons Creek Halifax. Then in 1791 Mar. 4 deed book 15 Halifax James Roach from Orange N.C sold land to John Talley of Aarons Creek Halifax. Then I found out that the Pettypools from Halifax were chain carriers for surveys for Granville and Orange N.c. in 1770. And I found out that Aarons Creek in Halifax runs into upper North Carolina. In the will of Lewis Kirk 1808 N.C that David Roach witnessed was a H. Forest, Richard Stanford{Sanford??} and Thomas Snipes, I have seen all these names also in the Halifax. Va. area???? Your Hite name I have seen a few times, but have never looked into a connection as yet. Did your Hite's live near the Haw Fields in N.C.? And where in Virginia did they come from, if at all? .................. So I have been attempting to put this David and James Roach together, cuz no one knows where James Roach came from before Orange N.C. .....Denise c_hite@juno.com wrote: > At one time, I thought the ROACH in south Halifax Co VA might have taken > Joseph Hite to Orange Co NC for 1790 census. There was an Alexander Roberts with John Hite-Hite in adjacent Charlotte Co VA, and an Alexander Roberts on Aaron Ck where James Roach sold land to Talley 1791. Two other names are Ginor Roach{male or female?} and Mary Roberts Roach d/o Alexander Roberts d.1781. Joseph Hite on 1790 Orange interests me. I'm not sure how far north The Haw starts, but don't think it is near Hillsboro....Its more due west and south...there is a website on maps and you can type in Cedar Grove or Saxapahaw and then zero in on those rivers/creeks.....however John Roach (one of them) lived further north, and there were another set of Thompson's (not connected to Ours that lived in Eno River area). I found Latta on 1810 census near one John Roach, but where they are in tax districts, compaired to where they are on Deeds,.is very confusing......I saw no Talley or Hite....but did not have time to go thru the whole Co page by page......when did they leave Orange CO.NC.?
