Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Halifax/2201 Surname: TERRELL, TALLEY, EDWARDS, CHEEK, AUSTIN, PATTERSON ------------------------- Would like to learn more about the Terrell families who resided in Halifax County, Virginia, before 1900, and in particular prior to 1850. This is part of my larger study of Terrell's along the Virginia/North Carolina state line (Henry, Pittsylvania, Halifax and Mecklenburg Counties in Virginia, and Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Person and Granville Counties in North Carolina), for possible connections to the descendants of Richmond Terrell who immigrated to Virginia about 1656. In Halifax County the William Terrell (ca 1730-1797) who had children Richard, William, Martha, Joseph, Nancy, James, Sarah, Timothy, Elizabeth and Franky, may be the ancestor of many Terrell's who settled in this area, however, I need help establishing these relationships. It is known that several descendants, through William's son William (who married Martha Patterson), lived in Person County. Have run across two surnames with Halifax roots associated with the Terrell's. These are TALLEY (Mary Elizabeth Macky Talley who married James Terrell 1809) and EDWARDS (Ann Elizabeth Edwards who married Haywood Watkins Terrell 4 September 1855 and Amanda Patience Edwards who married Richard Terrell-NOTE: Ann and Elizabeth may have been sisters). If anyone researching those lines has information on these folks I would appreciate hearing from you. Two Terrell's found in Caswell County with possible ancestors in Halifax County are Tabitha and Harrison. Tabitha Terrell married Robert Cheek in Caswell County on 6 December 1838. In the 1850 census Tabitha (born ca 1818) listed her place of birth as "Halifax, Va". Harrison A. Terrell (born ca 1818) also married in Caswell County 20 October 1843 to Elizabeth Austin. His place of birth was recorded as "Virginia". He may be a brother of Tabitha as Robert Cheek was bondsman for his marriage. Feel free to contact me directly, or post a note here. Happy to share my material with others who are interested. Thanks, Doug Terrell
