WILL 1765-1791 FROM BOOK Page 128. Will. I, John Hoskerson of Charlotte, on Ledbetter Cr, being sick and weak in body but of perfect sound mind I want the land and plantation I now dwell on, being about 526 acres, to be sold to the highest bidder, and the money equally divided, after all my just debts are paid, between my 2 sons and 3 daughters (viz) William Hoskison, John Hoskison, Catherine Hoskinson, Nancy Hoskinson, and Elizabeth Hoskinson - 5 shillings sterling. To my son Thomas Hoskinson, 5 shillings sterling. To my wife Catharine Hoskinson - all my stock and household furniture, during her natural life, and at her death, to be equally divided between my 5 first mentioned children. If any of my children die without heir, what I left them to be equally divided among the survivors except my son Thomas Hoskinson. I wish that ther may be no appraisement of my estate by Court Order. Executors: Christopher Billups and Rice Scott Signed Aug 3, 1775 - John Hoskison. Wit Bartholomew Duprey, Moses OVERTON, Susana ( ( ) her mark) OVERTON At a court held for Charlotte County on Oct 2, 1775, the will of John Hoskison dec'd was exhibited by Christopher Billups, one of the executors. Catharine Haskison, the widow, came into court and renounced the benefit of the legacy left her in the will and claimed her dower in the said estate. The same was proved bythe oaths of witnesses Bartholomew Duprey, Moses OVERTON, & OR. On the motion of the said Exor, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate in due form. His security was John Watkins. Liberty is reserved to Rice Scott, the other executor, to join in the execution when shall think fit.
