Hi-- Mourning Griffin married Peter Hudson about 1755. They lived in Halifax Co., Va. Peter Hudson left a will in Halifax Co., Va dated 20 Mar 1803 in which he named his Wife Mourning Hudson. I have a copy of John Griffin's will from Halifax Co., Va dated 7 Apr 1797 in which he named his sons and the following daughters: Nanney Arrington?; Mourning Griffin; Salley Jones; Betsey Jones; Karen Griffin; Armintha Vaughan; and Ann Williams. Peter Hudson and Mourning Griffin had a daughter, Sarah Hudson b.- 1756 along with six other children. Since Mourning Griffin (Hudson) had been married over 40 years when the above John Griffin died , if she were the his daughter it seems that he would have named her Mourning Hudson using the married name like he did for other daughter. For this reason it seems likely that Peter Hudson's wife was probably from the same generation as John Griffin; maybe a sister or aunt of John. I would appreciate any help in finding the parents and siblings of Mourning Griffin who married Peter Hudson. Sincerely, REGINALD L. Reginald, I am searching a family line related to Peter Hudson and his wife Mourning. They had a daughter, Tabitha, named in his 1803 will as "Tabatha Womack". There is a marriage record in Halifax County of an Abraham Womack and Tabitha Hudson being married on 17 Oct 1785. Tabitha signed the certificate herself, not her father. Later, on 21 Feb 1805, there is a Richard Lamkin m Tabitha Womack. Again, this Tabitha signs for herself. My question has been, is this the same Tabitha Hudson/Womack or a daughter of Abraham and the first Tabitha? I have been trying to track down this Abraham Womack, and there is an Abraham Womack in the 1782 Halifax property lists. In the 1783 property list there is a William Womack listed as a member of his household. Current theories suggest that this William is his son. If so, he would have been older when he married Tabitha Hudson in 1785. If you, or anyone else, have any information that might shed some light on this subject, I would love to hear from you. -Mark -----Original Message----- From: REGINALD L VASSAR [mailto:rlv18@juno.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2001 11:19 AM To: VAHALIFA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: MOURNING GRIFFIN, 1735 Halifax Co., Va Hi-- Mourning Griffin married Peter Hudson about 1755.
