Hi- I am trying to find more info about my husband's Halifax ancestors. He has a William Robertson m- Martha Brooks 1826 in Halifax Co. Va. Moved to Smith co. TN and then Gibson Co. TN. It is believed William is the son of John Robertson and Frances Abbott and Frances Abbott is the dau. of Joseph Abbott - d- 1788 in Halifax Co. In 1750, there was a Benjamin Abbott and Richard Brown who had land surveyed together and they owned land jointly. Through the records, they were constantly doing things together, witnessing deeds, being sued together and getting each other out of debt. But I cannot find the connection between the two. Does anyone know what this connection was and have info on this line? Thank you. Lois Haile <heartbar@proaxis.com>

Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Halifax/2282 Surname: Farmer, Boyd ------------------------- To get to Pleasant Grove Church from Halifax Courthouse, go south on Rt. 360 approx. 8 miles, turn left on Rt. 680, (Pleasant Grove Church Rd.) the church is about 1 1/2 miles on the right, it is now called Pleasant Grove United Christian Church and is still active. On one of my trips there last summer I was told the "old" church records had been lost. As for the denomination of the church, I don't have that information at the presant. I have a letter from 1924 on church stationary and at the top is "The Plasant Grove Christian Church", "News Ferry, Virginia". News Ferry on a map is approx. 5 1/2 miles S/E of the church where Rt. 671 ends at the Dan River.

Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Halifax/2276 Surname: Royall, Bedford, Glasscock, Marshall ------------------------- Looking for information on Littleberry Royall, who is mentioned in Halifax will of William Royall as his son. The will is dated 15 January 1817 and identifies Polly as the wife of William. Other children are John, Joseph, William, Richard and Susan. From a book of compiled marrige records, I find William Royall b. 11 March 1754; d 28 January 1821 (son of John and resident of Royall Hill) married 25 January 1787 Elizabeth Bedford b. 12 Dec. 1772; d. 11 Nov. 1802. His second marriage was to Polly (in one place shown as Polly Glasscock and another as Polly Marshall)on 3 Nov. 1806. My ggg grandfather was Littleberry Royall (who lived in Prince Edward and Lunenburg Counties), and I am hoping this is the same one. Is anyone else researching these people or does anyone have any information on them?

Va., criteria 1790s. Will for Thomas Gunn found in Person Co., N. C. (Next County) mentions wife and children, son, Gabriel and brother Daniel Gunn and brother is executor. Mentions Father's estate. We went to Halifax County in Sept. and thought it quaint and wonderful. I think one man's poverty is another man's quaint.
Dorothy and all Christian Countians, A mountain of apologies for my insensitivity. In telling my husband about this, he enlightened me that it was another county that we had seen this (which shall remain nameless of course). So, I learned a good lesson today. Keep your opinions (even mistaken ones) to yourself !! Anna
