Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Halifax/2303 Surname: McDowell, Brown ------------------------- Sorry, Debbie: This doesn't look like my direct line, but that's not to say the two John McDowells aren't related. My William Allen McDowell (son of John W. McDowell and Mary "Polly" Brown) married Mary "Polly" Lucas in Kentucky in 1823. While he could have been married before that, I think your William McDowell has too many children with Elizabeth Weatherford to be my William Allen McDowell. But if your McDowells are in the Halifax County area during the late 1700s and early 1800s, I think it's very possible our lines are related--maybe cousins or such. I'll keep track of your names and let you know if I run across them in connection with mine. Good luck in your searches.

Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Halifax/2291 Surname: NOWLIN, DIXON ------------------------- Jane, I have a John Nowlin in my Dixon Line. He married Nancy Dixon 25 Dec 1815, in Halifax Co. I learned from the LDS Family History Library on their IGI he was born 1795 s/o David and Jane Nowlin. He may have been married before, for their are 2 listings for marriages for him/ first was to a Lucy Hensley. David and Nancy Nowlin's ch: David Peyton 1817; Martha A 1820; Sherod G 1823; (looks like they moved to AL as their following ch.born there)Thomas Finley 1826; William M 1829-30; Corasanda 1830; Carolina 1831; Cora Sandra 1832. I have not verified this as I just found this information today Have just discovered the marriage of Nancy(one of my loose ends). I haven't checked the 1830C index or the AIS to see if they did go to AL. AIS would tell the state where they were born. Also on another branch, Fanny Nowlin from Pittsylvania Co, d/o Daivd and Mary Nowlin married Joseph Petty, they migrated to Ray Co., MO. Let me know if this is your family. Good hunting Jean
Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Halifax/2290 Surname: Pulliam, Griffin, Elliott ------------------------- My Drury Pulliam was born between 1790 and 1800. The information I now have says Drury md. first Sally W. Brooks on Nov 24,1819. They had five children: James B, Jordan, William B, Susan and Martha. Drury md. second Eliza Griffin on Dec. 20, 1843 in Mecklenburg Co VA. This may have been her second marriage as well. It is thought that she was born Eliza Elliott. Drury and Eliza had children named Margaret, Permelia, Drewry and Ransome. There are many Pulliams along the border of Virginia and North Carolina. I have no evidence of there relationship but it certainly seems likely.
