    3. Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Halifax/12300 Surname: Cunningham ------------------------- Prior to the American Revolution there were Scottish Stores that serviced the Halifax County- Person County region. Cunningham Store was one of them. After the Revolution a lot of the Scottish storekeepers returned to England. They backed the losing side. Cunningham Store was used as a post office, census district as well as a trading center for this rural area. As to Indian tribes in the area. The Occaneechi and Saponi were in this area. If you look at Va history you will see where this tribe was basically wiped out. A search of the Deeds for Halifax and Person county will help you pinpoint your Cunningham family.

    1. Halifax Co. Va Cemeteries.
    2. Greetings, I am repeating a previous offer. I have vols. 1 and 2 of George Calvin Waldreps "Halifax County (Virginia) Cemeteries." These 2 vols. contain the names and locations of over 300 cemeteries located in Halifax County Virginia. The books contain inscriptions from gravestones found in these 300 plus graveyards. Information containing surname, given name, date of birth, date of death, etc., was copied from the graves Mr. Waldrep stated in Vol. 2 that he had info on about 80 more cemeteries in Halifax Co, that he did not get to cover, so these two books do not cover all cemeteries in Halifax Co Va. I will do surname lookups. In order to not clog up this list for those not interested, I will not answer requests posted to this list. Please, send your requests to me at: Lchand3835@aol.com Thanks, Larry

Posted on: HALIFAX CO, VA QUERY FORUM Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Halifax/12289 Surname: Gregory ------------------------- Look in the Regimental history for the 3rd Va Infantry Regiment. High Hill Grays of Halifax County, Va enlisted March 14th, 1862 for three years of the war, and was mustered unto service on April 14, 1862. The company was disbanded on June 20, 1862 and the men are reported to have been transferred to other companies. It appears to have been disbanded by authority of S. O. No 114, A&IGO., dated May 19th, 1862 which authorized members of the company to be transferred to companies of the 4th Regiment Va Heavy Artillery., afterwards designated as the 34th Regiment Va Infantry.
