A clue is that one of the sons of Robert and Holly Porter is Minetree Porter bc 1830 VA from whom I descend. The family appears together on the Grayson Co VA census for 1850. On the 1860 Grayson Co VA (Independence) census, Holly is not present, but there is a Mary Unknown age 45 present with Robert and all of the children except for son Minetree. Living nextdoor are Zeb and Elvina Phipps. Son Minetree Porter is married to Rutha Phipps, lives a few houses away from father Robert, and has four children of his own. On the 1870 Grayson Co VA (Independence) census, Robert Porter age 65 is shown without a spouse and four of his grown daughters living with him, one of whom is Violet Porter Roberts. Zeb and Elvina Phipps still are living nextdoor. Robert Porter does not appear on any future census. Because the name Robert Porter is such a common name in Grayson Co VA (and Wythe Co VA), I am providing the background information to differentiate him from others of similar name. Any help determining if Holly Porter is actually from the Minetree Jones family would be appreciated.
