Can someone please tell me when Grayson County started keeping birth records? If I write for one in 1876, are they likely to have it in the court house? Janis, According to this URL: http://www.ls.net/~newriver/va/graybth.htm Grayson County, Virginia, Birth Records, 1853- 1870 births were recorded as far back as 1853, so I would assume that if you wrote requesting a birth in 1876 they would be likely to have it. When in doubt, go to www.vitalrec.com and click on "States and Territories" and then click on the state you want. There is a chart for the records available for the state, fees, links to download the request forms, addresses of where to write, and links to each individual county for their own information.
