Dear Listers, I am posting again for all the newcomers who may be connected to my OWENS family. I am looking for anything (prior to his birth) on James W. OWENS, born 1838, in either Virginia or one of the state line counties of North Carolina. He married Anne LEATH in Ashe County, North Carolina in August of 1856. They had one child, George Washington OWENS, born 1859 (later married to Curilda COLE, daughter of James COLE and Lydia HOWELL). George and Curilda had five children, each child having three first names, George Thomas Edd; John Rufus J. ; Pearl A. L. ; M. Laura J. ; and Lellie Zara Dell. I don't know what some of the initials stand for. James and Anne were in the 1860 census of Grayson County, Virginia, living in the Elk Creek district. James enlisted to fight in the Civil War on June 24th in Independence Virginia and was assigned to Company K, 51st Virginia Infantry. Evidently he was wounded in one of the first two battles because he died at home before the end of the year 1861. I need parents and siblings names, his death date and anything else you have. Hopefully someone will recognize these elusive people. Gloria in Texas
