Several WARD researchers have joined forces and organized a DNA test group which will currently focus on 1700s Ireland and Virginia and 1800s Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois. Because the name is so common, we thought it wise to narrow it down to these states. Once DNA markers are established for the WARDs in those states, we envision expanding the test to include other states. We have had astounding results in two other test groups with which I am associated. The use of these tests have saved us years of research by helping us sort out 18th and 19th century family groups by using DNA markers. Our group is looking for DNA sampling from WARD males who are in a direct line descendant of WARDs from Ireland, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois in the 1700s and 1800s. Since this is a test of the Y chromosome, only males whose last name is WARD can participate. Collection of DNA is just the swiping of the inside of the cheek to get sample cells from saliva for testing. The DNA is not used for any other purpose. If you are interested in obtaining more information about our project, please visit http://www.familytreedna.com where you can fill out the "join request" form and qualify for the group discount of $99 for the 12 marker test.
