Joe X. Phipps, 86 Joe X. Phipps, 86 of Mouth of Wilson, passed away September 23, 2003 at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lee Cox Phipps , and all his brothers and sisters. He was born May 7, 1917, in Mouth of Wilson, to Steve and Lura Parsons Phipps. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe X. Jr., and Joyce Phipps of the Fox community, Independence, and Mike and Nancy Phipps of Fries, one grandson, and his wife, Joe X. III and Roxane Phipps of Lenoir, N.C. and one granddaughter, Lindsay Phipps of Pulaski. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, with burial in the Youngs Chapel Cemetery, Mouth of Wilson. The Revs. Hal Eaton and Doug Turnmire will officiate. Miltary rites will be conducted at graveside by the Grayson County VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
