I have a Cora Bess whose maiden name was Burris. She was born in 1897, and died in 1981. She was the d/o Lewis Franklin Burris and Louvenia McMillian, sister of George Herman, Ella D., Everett French, Hobert Mitchell, Samuel H., Greek S., Nellie, and Shirley R. Burris. Cora is buried -- alone -- under the surname of Boone. I have found Cora in the 1910 and 1920 census records, living with her parents (1910-Elk Creek; 1920-Black Lick, Wythe Co.) Her parents were in Pulaski Co. in the 1930 census, but she was not with them. I can not find her at all in the 1930 census records. I have done a search for just "Cora" born in VA, thinking either "Burris" or "Boone" could have been botched, but have found nothing even remotely possible. I've even done a search for "Bess." I have searched the SSDI and come up empty also. Does anyone have any information on Cora, or who she married? Sue Dotson [email protected]
Dear Sue, I want to make sure I am not misunderstanding anything(I have been guilty of that on some occasions). Cora Bess was the SISTER of George Herman .....Shirley R. Burris? There is a Nellie Burris in my children's ancestry. Diane, Yes, Cora was their sister. I show George Herman was md. to Lillie Bell Unknown. I don't have a spouse for Shirley, but show this child was a male. He was listed as "Worley" in the 1920 census. I show Nellie md. to Unknown Byall. I forgot to mention in my original posting that in addition to all of the siblings there were also three unnamed infants. Any help would be appreciated.
