The obituary below was in the Galax Gazette online earlier this week. It says the parents were James Wright and Nolie Allen Sawyers. However, the obituary for his brother Virgil Clayton states the parents were Robert and Nolla Sawyers. The 1920 census has the father's name as "Robert I." and the 1930 census has his name as "Robert L." So does anyone know why this obituary has the father's name as "James Wright Sawyers"? He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Wythe County to James Wright and Nolie Allen Sawyers. Survivors include his wife, Frances Sawyers of Galax; a daughter and son-in-law, Drema and buck Crigger of Elk Creek; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Brenda Sawyers, Ricky and Phyllis Sawyers and Mike Sawyers, all of Galax; three sisters, Nirel Alley, Wanda Burnette and Frances Moxley, all of Galax; a brother, Swanson Sawyers of Galax; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Sunday at Monta Vista Cemetery. The Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy officiated. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
