Thanks Sue That bears out all that I have found so far. David evidently passed away around 1792 when Mary became head of household (land transactions) . Peter born 1765 assumed his household on Turkey Fork of Elk Creek around 1792 and sold out in 1803 moving to Russell County with Mary following 1809 right after Joseph's marriage to Elizabeth Welch. Peter finally ended up in Washngton Cty, VA after 1827 which established the Henry (1830) and Sarah Gobble Powers family. We believe the early Ashe County Powers are also descended from David and Mary maybe moving back into Grayson from NC around 1820 thus the family of William. I still have a lot of investigative work to do with placing the origin of 1870's William's family. Joseph has been well documented but the early Ashe County William, Major, and Laoma are still some of a mystery. The < 1779 information confirms their arrival before the 1781 survey. Thanks Jan
