    1. Re: 1870 Annotated Grayson Cty, Census

    3. All, The 1870 Annotated census is online on Jeff Weaver's New River web page. However, the last time I checked the site, the chart I mentioned was not included; only the census data and annotation notes were online. I purchased my copy of the book from the Grayson Co. Historical Society, long before the data had been placed online. Janet, to answer your question, there is a Mary and a Peter Powers listed on the chart, both shown b. <1779 and heads of households in Grayson in the 1800 census only. No David listed in the chart. There is a Peter Bowers, also b. <1779 and also 1800 census only. No Mary or David, and no Bauers. In the 1870 census itself, there is only one Powers family, in the Elk Creek District # 216: Powers, William E. 50 Farm Laborer Mary A. 44 John W. 24 Helena 21 Virginia 16 William P. 17 Lucinda 14 Mary A. 9 James M. 11 Henry W. 3 Scott, John W. 19 Farm Laborer All b. NC Annotation Notes: [It is possible, that Helena C. Powers Md. Jno. W. Scott, s/o F. H. & N. Scott 5/11/1870, though there is room for doubt.] Sue Dotson [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 30, 2001 6:21 PM Subject: 1870 Annotated Grayson Cty, Census > Sue > > My brickwall for the Powers family is Grayson/Montgomery.
