List: I am trying to research the Jerome W. Eskins / Eskings family. Jerome was born June, 1838 in Montgomery County, Va. Married Sarah C. Foster, 17 May 1866 in Kanawha County. WV. She was listed as 25 and a Widow. She may have been a Wright ? Jerome was listed on the 1890 Tax list of Grayson County, Va. ( He had Ivanhoe under his name.) He was listed with 56 acres of taxable land in Old Town District. on New River, with $84.00 total Tax. Jerome was listed as a Carpenter. Their children was Twins; Ida May Eskins born April 1877 and Louise or Laura A. Eskins. I would like to have the date land was bought and sold. Birth of any other children. Dave, You can check the 1870 census online, but I looked in my book and Jerome is mentioned with the family of Churchwell Wright, family #45 Old Town District. It says Sarah was the daughter of Churchwell & Melinda Wright and she was b. 1855. That means either the b. date or your marriage date has to be incorrect because she wouldn't have md. at age 11. You say she was 25 when she md. The children living with Churchwell and Melinda in the 1870 census range in age from 23 down to 2. Melinda and Churchwell are both 43. If Sarah was really 25 when she md., she would be 29 in 1870 which would mean her parents were both 14 when she was born. Sounds a little fishy. As for your request, I think it would benefit you to contact the Grayson Co. courthouse for the records you want -- unless you can find someone who would be willing to go there for you and pull them. I would do it if I was local but I'm 10 hrs away. Sorry!
