:The Virginian-Pilot; :Jan 30, 2007; :Hampton Roads; :22 Betty V. Harrell NORFOLK - Betty Jean Vaught Harrell lost her courageous battle to cancer Jan. 28, 2007, in her home. Betty was born in 1933 in Tralee, W.Va., to Wade R. Vaught and Lucille Cahill Vaught. The family moved to Norfolk in 1943 where Betty graduated from Norview High School in 1949. She was happily married to the late Willard F. Harrell Jr. for more than 49 years. Betty recently retired after more than 36 years of loyal service to Ken Reid Inc. of Virginia Beach. She loved her work and cherished her relationships with her customers, co-workers and Ken Reid. She also devoted much of her time to charitable organizations, including serving as Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters of Virginia. Betty was a tireless worker for community, charitable and political causes. Betty, a beloved mother, sister and grandmother is survived by her sons, Frank and Diane Harrell of Norfolk, Tim and Ann Harrell of Virginia Beach and Matt and Nancy Harrell of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Holly Luning of Norfolk; brother, Wade R. and Irene Vaught of Virginia Beach; sister, Naomi Faye and Nick Faella of Norfolk; and seven grandchildren, Byron, Justin, Allyson, Hope, Kristina, Lauren and Alexandra. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1500 Sewells Point Road, Norfolk, followed by a celebration of her life at the home of Frank and Diane Harrell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Norfolk SPCA or the Strelitz Diabetes Institute of Norfolk.
