I am researching the sister of Mazie Phipps, Carrie Maude Phipps, for a friend. I know that Carrie was living with Ben Halsey and Mazie in the 1910 Grayson County, VA, census, and that some of her (Carrie Maude) children later lived with the Halseys. In fact I have been told that Ben and Mazie adopted Mettie B. Phipps, Carrie Maude's daughter, although I have not found proof of that. I believe that Mettie was living with Hattie and Howard Smith in 1920, listed as sister-in-law, even though I know that she was not an actual sister to Hattie. Thanks again.
