The Virginian-Pilot; :Jan 12, 2007; :Hampton Roads; :19 Irene Painter Whitley VIRGINIA BEACH - Irene Painter Whitley, 84, of the 400 block of Lake Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Whitley was born in Covington, Va., the daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Painter. Irene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and immensely loved by all who knew her. She cherished her family, her home and her church. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, George E. Whitley; two daughters, Patsy D. Fentress and her husband James H. Fentress of Virginia Beach and Laura W. Hale and her husband Kevin E. Hale of Leesburg, Va.; her son, James L. Duncan Sr. of Richmond, Va. She had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Heartland Hospice and Healing Hands for their kindness and support. We will always be grateful. A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at H.D.
