He was born July 15, 1933, in Whitetop to James Avery and Rosetta Eller Mabe. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Powers Mabe of the home; a daughter, Judy Mabe of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Norma Mabe of Whitetop; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Barney and Pauline Mabe of Whitetop and Harley and Jane Mabe of Luray; a special buddy; special friend; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Friday at Whitetop Baptist Church with burial in the Miller Cemetery, Whitetop. The Revs. Dennis Eller, Joe Powers and T.A. Pennington will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Grayson County VFW Post 7726. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, is in charge of arrangements Galax Gazette 30 Sept 2006
