    2. Stephanie, that denotes Confederate service during the Civil War. My great-great-grandfather William H. Mink (and all his brothers but one) fought for the 50th Virginia Infantry, CSA. Some states, Tennessee being one, sent regiments to both the Union and Confederacy. 1. Owens, Cole, Carico
    2. Owens Family
    3. Dear Listers, I am posting again for all the newcomers who may be connected to my OWENS family. I am looking for anything (prior to his birth) on James W. OWENS, born 1838, in either Virginia or one of the state line counties of North Carolina. He married Anne LEATH in Ashe County, North Carolina in August of 1856. They had one child, George Washington OWENS, born 1859 (later married to Curilda COLE, daughter of James COLE and Lydia HOWELL). George and Curilda had five children, each child having three first names, George Thomas Edd; John Rufus J. ; Pearl A. L. ; M. Laura J. ; and Lellie Zara Dell. I don't know what some of the initials stand for. James and Anne were in the 1860 census of Grayson County, Virginia, living in the Elk Creek district. James enlisted to fight in the Civil War on June 24th in Independence Virginia and was assigned to Company K, 51st Virginia Infantry. Evidently he was wounded in one of the first two battles because he died at home before the end of the year 1861. I need parents and siblings names, his death date and anything else you have. Hopefully someone will recognize these elusive people. Gloria in Texas

    3. My web pages are down for now. MyFreeOffice, which was my host, was one of the many dot.com companies to bite the dust, with only a few hours notice. So I will eventually be up and running again. I'm going to do the genealogy at rosalinda.com first. I will probably make the best of the situation by improving the pages. Beryl Hughes

    1. Preston Reeves
    2. Jane Shumate
    3. Dear List I would like to know the relationship of Preston Reeves to the Shumaker/Shumate family. I believe that the name, Preston Reeves has been the name of several individuals in several generations. However, in the 1970's my sister in law met an elderly person with that name who was a relation. How? In one connection, Polly Reeves (born in the 1820's) married Marshall Calloway, their daughter, Mahala married William Shumaker. William Shumaker is the great grandfather of my husband's family. Is their a more recent connetion of Reeves and Shumakers-now Shumates? Jane Shumate

    1. LINNIE J. ROBERTS
    2. I am trying to locate the parents of LINNIE J. ROBERTS who married JAMES POLK STROUP in Grayson Co., VA, and resided until death in the Cripple Creek area of Wythe Co., VA. They are buried at the Mt Ephraim Cemetery in Wythe Co., VA. I "guess-timate" that they would have been born in the 1850-1870 time frame. I am also wondering if this Stroup family line is connected to the Stroup family line in North Carolina. Appreciate any help.
