    1. 1870 Annotated Grayson Cty, Census
    2. Sue My brickwall for the Powers family is Grayson/Montgomery. I know they were there in then Montgomery 1782 through 1809 but their origins and spouses have eluded the records on line. Does the 1870 Annotated Census list the families that are NOT IN the 1870 Census? I would really appreciate a look up for Powers/Power or the source of purchase of the Annotated 1870 Census. Known some head of households are David Powers, Peter Powers, and Mary Powers but when do they first appear on the rolls? Some records may be recorded as Bauers or Bowers. David's land certificate mentioned "Wallen's Bottom" and Boagh's Creek which cannot be found today. Thanks Janet

    3. Andy, There is a chart in the 1870 Annotated Grayson Co. census that lists everyone who was a head of household in Grayson Co. from 1771 to 1850 and in what records their names are found. These Howells are listed: Alexander, b. 1794-9 1820 & 1830 census Anderson, b. 1775-94 1820 census Andrew, b. 1790-9 1830 & 1840W census Calvin, b. <1789 1810 tax list Calvin, b. 1810-9 1840 W census Ellen, b. 1790-9 1840W census George, b. 1800-9 1830 & 1840W census George, b. 1750-9 1800 census, 1810 tax list, 1820 & 1830 census James, b. <1779 1800 census, 1810 tax list John, b. <1789 1810 tax list Samuel Jr., b. Their relationship to George, if any, is unknown. William Howell, Sr., owned one farm on the New River at the mouth of Fox Creek, consisting of 354 acres, having thereon one dwelling house of logs and one kitchen, valued at $300. William Howell, Jr., owned one farm of 60 acres on New River, having thereon one dwelling house of logs, (18' x 16'), valued at $100." Hope this helps you some. 3. Hello, I'm new to the list. I'm researching the family of John Calvin Howell, born 1818, Old Town, Grayson Co. Va, married Louisa McMillan. (Louisa May have been a Phipps, some say Laurance). John Calvin was the son of Andrew and Jane (?) Howell, who was heir of and probably son of William Howell Sr. John Calvin moved to Ashe Co., served in the Confederacy from there, and then moved to Prairie City Oregon after Louisa died, around 1875. Sort of an aside, I noticed in the two books on Grayson Co. that I have, only George Howell is listed in the index. Other do show up in lists within the book, which evidently are not indexed. It seems strange to me that only one Howell is listed when there were obviously many there. However, it occurred to me that maybe the name has been confused with Hale, which is a soundex equivalent. There are many Hales listed, and the family lines are well researched. To support this possibility is this, a Calvin Howell (not my direct line), married a Barbary Rhudy in 1807, daughter of Jacob Rhudy. Jacob Rhudy and William Hale (possibly Howell?) had adjoining farms. Was Calvin the son of William Hale (Howell?)? I also noticed that many of the heirs of William Howell Sr. could not sign their names to one of the deeds I copied. That makes it even more likely that they did not know the "correct" spelling of the family name. Any and all help greatly appreciated, andy graham

    1. Joanna Byrne/Bourn
    2. Pat Elder
    3. Is anyone researching Joanna Byrne/Bourn who left Grayson County with her husband Eli Beller sometime before 1798. I've tried for many years to track her parents but no luck. I have a lot of primary documentation on the family after they arrived in Kentucky but nothing much more than civil records prior to their arrival in Kentucky. Thank you! 1. GRAY OF VA
    2. George Basden
    3. I ama researching the following GRAY family and hopefully someone can help fill in some details. Thomas Gray born abt 1803 died abt 1867. Married Sarah "Sally" Davis in Wythe Co, VA on or abt December 20, 1827. Sarah is the daughter of Joseph Davis Sr. and Elizabeth James. Thomas and Sarah had the following children: James abt 1830 David abt 1832 George abt 1834 Marshall abt 1836 Matilda abt 1838 ***Mary abt 1840 Emory July 15, 1844 Sarah abt 1847 ***Mary married a James Wilcox. They had three children - Manerva abt 1869, Washington June 29, 1870 and Alice abt 1879. I am a decendant of the Washington Wilcox - Mary Carrico marriage. Mary's husband died in Antoine, AR and she took the three children back to VA. At one time she is listed on the census living on the farm with her brother Emory. I have a copy of Thomas' will (dtd 1867) and in it he mentions his daughter "Betty Wilcox". Could Betty be a knickname for Matilda? If so, who is the Wilcox that she married. I do believe that Mary Gray's husband James Wilcox had two sons from his previous marriage. James is originally from Tennessee. Thanks. George E. 3. For those of us researching the following lines; AUSTELL, LIBERTS, REPROGLE, WALLACE, MOORE, JONES, BASEDEN, BASDEN, BAYSDEN, HANSON, MOOREHOUSE, ETHERTON, LIPE, WILCOX, CARRICO, GRAY, DAVIS, CLINTON, HUGHES, BENNING, BOEHING, I am pleased, actually tickled pink, to announce the newest decendant of the above lines. JACOB EDWARD REPROGLE was born on Sunday, June 3, 2001 at about 7 pm. He came in at 7 lbs 6 oz and looks just like his 2-year old brother NATHAN HUNTER REPROGLE. Jacob is the son of Jennifer L. Basden and James H. Reprogle. Jake has a full head of black hair! I asked mom if I could hold him and she asked me if tomorrow would be okay!! :o) Sure don't blame her! Mom and Dad are doing fine and proud as can be, rightfully so. But then again, so is GRANDPA!!!! Jen and Jim honored both grandfathers by giving them the middle names from of each Grandfather. Nathan has Grandpa Reprogle's middle name and Jacob has Grandpa Basden's middle name! This is now my 3rd grandchild. Youngest daughter Julie is expecting her baby in November. Both girls have said that they are quiting after 2 children. Take care all and God bless. George E. Basden Basden Photography http://www.basden.com [email protected]

    1. RICHARDSON-BONHAM
    2. Hi, all! I'm looking for information on William RICHARDSON and Naomi BONHAM of Grayson Co., VA and Wilkes Co., NC. I would like to share and exchange information with others in this line. I believe Naomi (b. abt 1807 in Grayson Co.) is an ancestor of Edward & Samuel Fuller, of Mayflower fame, through Hannah Fuller and Nicholas Bonham. My line comes through Hezekiah Bonham, Sr. and Ann Hunt. As I understand it, there is some dispute over the Bonham/Hunt marriage and their offspring, therefore the Mayflower Society doesn't recognize the line. Does the saying "always a bridesmaid" apply here? :-) As for William, my sources show his place and date of birth as Wilkes Co., NC about 1800, and I have little (make that no) information on his parents. Looking forward to communicating with other researching this line. Gerri
