Hi listers, Charles Dee COLLINS, son of Andrew Boyd COLLINS, who was born in Grayson County, will be 85 in July. His daughter LaVelle COREY will be giving a party in Montrose, Colorado, on the 20th. We are descended from COLLINS, CONLEY, COX, FIELDER, HAMPTON, MOORE, SIMCOX (and probably other lines) in Grayson County, and are well-represented in the Bicentennial county history. All are welcome, but please let LaVelle know as soon as possible at [email protected] Montrose is located in the beautiful San Juan range of the Rockies, not far from Telluride, and is a wonderful spot for a vacation. Hi, I am working on the family of DELOMA PARISH. His wife was ELETHA (LEATH) JANE HALL, dau. of ANDREW J. HALL whom is believe is from Grayson Co.,VA. Leath was born in 1844 in Iowa (in Iowa). Is anyone working on this Hall line? If so, I would like to correspond with you. Thanks, Isobel
Zaday! Greetings! I am looking for cousins who will volunteer to do a simple, free, painless cheek swab test to analyze their DNA. They must be male volunteers carrying the name Cooper, Blevins, Ramey, Carter, Bond, Perry, or Davis. Family Tree DNA in Austin, Texas at http://www.familytreedna.com/ will conduct the tests, which will form part of the Melungeon DNA study undertaken by Brent Kennedy, a professor at the University of Virginia at Wise. There must be no "hanky panky" in that line or adopted children in your ancestry back to the relevant surname. In other words it must be father-son-father-son legitimately all the way down. Please contact me privately off list if you qualify and are interested. You may pass this message along to others. (If someone has the email address of Ron Blevins of West Point, Va., please send him a copy.) Thank you very much. In my files I have an Elias B. Robinson md. to Margaret Jane Cornett. Is this the same Elias or is there any connection? I have some conflicting information as to whether or not this couple had a daughter named Olive Molly Robinson who md. Daniel Crocket ("Crocket") Phillips. One cemetery source says they were her parents, but another researcher tells me her parents were Wesley Robinson and Sarah Jane Vonce. I am looking for any information on Elias or Preston Robinson/Robertson/Robison who were both living in Grayson County in 1820. I know that Elias went to Ashe County where he is listed in the 1830 Census and eventually onto Clay County, KY where he appears in the 1840 and 1850 Census. I believe that Elias married a woman named Christina who was likely an Indian Woman. I do not know if Elias was of Indian or European descent. I think that there may be a connetion with Preston Robinson, because the name Preston appears in many of Elias Robinson's descendants. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike Robinson
Hi George, We haven't corresponded in quite a while. I have a few Grays in my family. Sarah Gray married James Roberts (Wilkes Co, I beleive) Their daughter Margaret married Spencer Warren (Dick) and were my great grand parents. Don't know much about this family. I am researching the following GRAY family and hopefully someone can help fill in some details. Thomas Gray born abt 1803 died abt 1867. Married Sarah "Sally" Davis in Wythe Co, VA on or abt December 20, 1827. Sarah is the daughter of Joseph Davis Sr. and Elizabeth James. Thomas and Sarah had the following children: James abt 1830 David abt 1832 George abt 1834 Marshall abt 1836 Matilda abt 1838 ***Mary abt 1840 Emory July 15, 1844 Sarah abt 1847 ***Mary married a James Wilcox. They had three children - Manerva abt 1869, Washington June 29, 1870 and Alice abt 1879. I am a descendant of the Washington Wilcox - Mary Carrico marriage. Mary's husband died in Antoine, AR and she took the three children back to VA. At one time she is listed on the census living on the farm with her brother Emory. I have a copy of Thomas' will (dtd 1867) and in it he mentions his daughter "Betty Wilcox". Could Betty be a nickname for Matilda? If so, who is the Wilcox that she married. I do believe that Mary Gray's husband James Wilcox had two sons from his previous marriage. James is originally from Tennessee. George E.
