Lillian, There are two pages of information pertaining to your John SWINDLE, Jr., his daughter, Ruth SWINDLE and her husband, James S. RECTOR and their descendants in the book "Swindall-Austin Families of Virginia and North Carolina, 1622-1995" published in 1995 by Hetty Swindall Sutherland. (Contact William H. Sutherland, PO Box 547, St. Paul, VA 24283, 540-762-0542 if you're interested in obtaining a copy.) This book quotes information from two other publications: "The Rector Family" by Clifford B. Rector which is no longer available for purchase, but may be viewed at the Germanna Community College Library, Germanna, VA and at the Allegheny Co. Library, Sparta, NC and "Rector Records" by Larry King which is available from his granddaughter, Patty Lee Scott, 126 Upper Station Camp, Gallatin, TN 37066, 615-452-9580. I just got a recommendation on the TXBASTRO List for a 10 minute animated (audio narration) US Map that is somewhat interactive. It provides a really outstanding overview of the Growth of our Nation. If you want to give it a try, the link is http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html . If you're like me, it's nice to occasionally be able to quickly step back and remind myself of the big picture for my genealogy work in the US. And I think site this does that extremely well in a short period of time. Larry Ward

John Perry Alderman's annotated 1850 census mentions that James A. Edwards was the son of Thomas and Mary Edwards then in the 1860 Civil War Census he is no longer certain about the parents of James A. Edwards since there were many James Edwards living in this region at this time. I have John EDWARDS b. February 19, 1791 and Mary HAGUE EDWARDS as the parents of James A. born June 07, 1830 died October 04, 1908. James A. was married to Mary Polly WILLIAMS daughter of David Williams and Elizabeth BURNETT. Do any of you connect to this tree and have information for me? Thank you! Beth Colvin in Florida

I have heard that there is a monument somewhere in Grayson Co. for Rev War vets. Does anyone know where it is located and just exactly what it says? Thanks. --------- End Original Message ---------
Thanks so much for the replies to my post. I have found that Ancestry.com had a mistake and Jeremiah Moles was not in the 1850 Fayette co, Va census. Darn! Did find his son : Fayette County 1850 Isaac Moles 45 , Mary (Riston) 41 , Elizabeth 19 , Robert 16 , Henry 22 , Rebecca 14 ,Jackson 12. I have really hit a brickwall with Jeremiah . There was a Jeremiah Moles in the 1810 Giles Co., Va census. My ancestor Henry Scott married in Giles Co in 1816 and Elizabeth and Jerry Moles signed permission papers. This leads me to believe that this Jeremiah Moles is not the one that married Milly Reynolds in 1809 Patrick CO., Va . Elizabeth Moles was still in Giles Co., Va in 1819. I have found a Jeremiah Moles in the 1824 and 1827 personal property tax lists and 1830 census for Logan Co.,Va . and have been told that there was a Jeremiah Moles in the 1830 to 1840 period in Grayson Co., Va. or in Fayette Co., Va from 1830's to late 1840's I would love to work with anyone out there who have access to these 1830 to 1850 records. Is anyone researching Edward Moles that ended up in Kanawha Co., Va. after 1820 ? I have seen him listed as being born 1770 to 1784. I am thinking he is probably the son of Edward Moles ,Jr ,Jeremaih Moles,Sr .or Edward Sr . Am thinking he is either the brother or father of my Jeremiah Moles. Its a good thing I like puzzles, hmm ? Thanks again for all the help! Barbara
John Swindle Jr. was son of John Swindle and Hannah Weaver. John was born 7-17-1779 probably VA. He lived almost all his life in Ashe Co., NC. He died 12/19/1853 in Grayson Co., VA. The death record there was reported by his son-in-law James S. Rector. Ruth Swindle married James Rector. Elizabeth Swindle may have married a Swindle, as her children are also named Swindle. Lucy married Dr. Stephen Landreth , Jr. Joseph married Rebecca Noblitt James married ??? My ancestor is Nancy Weaver Swindle b. 4/29/1815 Ashe Co., NC. I wish to identify who who parents are. I believe she fits into this family, but need to find where. I believe that John Swindle, Jr. is her father, but need to find his wife? If any one is familiar with this family or can help me find more information concerning this family group, please write. I have a full set of descendants for Nancy, but need her family first. Does anyone have access to the 1900 Grayson County Census records and would mind to do a look up? I'm looking for the children of E.F. Anderson and Mary Adams. Is anyone researching the Phipps families who lived in Grayson Co in 1820? The heads of household listed on the census are Benjamin, Joseph, James, John, and Lewis Phipps. Specifically, I'm looking for information on Zarr Phipps who was born bet 1800-1820. He might have been a son of one of the men listed above. Zarr Phipps came to Knox (now Bell) Co KY from VA. He married Didaima "Damy" Baker who was a daughter of Andrew Baker and Jane Gillis, formerly of Lee Co VA. Andrew Baker is a son of Rev Andrew Baker and Eliz Avant. He either died or left in 1835 or 1836 near the time of the birth of his second son in Knox Co KY. A couple of given names seen in Zarr Phipps's descendants that are seen in some of the Grayson Co Phipps lines are Columbus and Larkin. If anyone has any information about Zarr I would appreciate knowing, as I've looked for him for years. Thanks in advance for any help! Connie
