    2. Paul B. Anderson
    3. - Hi All, I've updated the 'Grayson County/Galax Schools Location' listing in the 'Files' section of Jeff Weaver's 'NCNR' Yahoo.com Group. File Name: Grayson_Schools_Feb_2003_Nad83.txt Known Educational Institution Locations in Grayson County/Galax, VA Changes: 1) Format change to the entire file. 2) Corrected The District locations to the two 'Mountain View' Schools (they were transposed). 3) Various School Name tweaks to include 'Alias' Names. 4) Rich and Ginger Ballard have provided a Galax Gazette article from the 1992-93 time frame that listed ALL schools that have existed in Grayson County/Galax. I've folded the ones I did not have into this listing and will update the Latitude/Longitude values as they become available. In addition, I've added two 'new' files to the 'Grayson County, VA Waypoints' folder. They are: 1) Galax_Roads.txt 2) Grayson_Co_Roads.txt. These files list Grayson County/Galax E911 Road Names and their Aliases and are extracted from the Roads Layer of the Census 2000 Tiger Files. I will be doing additional work on these files to make them a better cross-reference. My direct ancestor is John Swindle, Jr who lived in Ashe Co., NC but died 1853 in Grayson Co., VA. I did a check of this website: http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm This is called New River Notes. Here are the records and names which I am interested in. 1. WOOD Family of 1880
    2. Gary Utt
    3. Can anyone help me trace the Wood family? I have found in the 1880 Grayson Co Wilson District census data on the New River page the following information-- 257. Wood, Hannah M. 31 H KH VA VA VA Ambrose J. 12 VA VA VA Wiley M. 7 VA VA VA Margaret E. 6 VA VA VA Susan 1 VA VA VA Mary 4 VA VA VA Moving back to 1870 I found in Wilson District: 123. Wood, Zebedee 29 Farmer 300 NC Hannah 21 William J. 6 Ambros J 2 John L. 5/12 (Zebidee Wood(s) served in Co.K, 37th NC Infamtry, CSA, enlisting in Alleghany Co, NC on 9/1/1861. He was wounded on 7/10/1862, and retired to the Invalid Corps on 7/25/1864.) I believe that Wiley M. could be my grandfather, Wiley Hensley, born in Major, Grayson Co, Virginia. A family story states that something happened to his father when he was young and the children went to live with a family by the name of Hensley. No one can actually verify this but the children listed in the 1880 Grayson Co census have the correct ages and names except for Susan that I know to be Nan in later years. Any help on this would be appreciated. Julie Hensley Utt [email protected]

    3. I just wanted to thank everyone for their response to my query. I have looked at this George and Mahala Jennings before as possible parents for my Nancy Quesenberry, but the dates just don't fit. Nancy was married to William H. Stewart 1857 in Lee Co. Her parents are listed as George and M. A. Quesenberry. Nancy and her brother Miles Quesenberry were listed as being born in Grayson Co on the 1870 Lee Co census. While Nancy was married to William her reported birthdate from her marriage record and the 1860 Census indicate she was born abt 1825, but after she was widowed the 1890 and 1900 Census for Lee Co indicate her birthday as May 1812. Either way this George and Mahala couldn't be their parents unless they were married after they had children, after all Nancy was an unwed mother herself before marrying William. I have in my notes that Dicy Quesenberry daughter of George Q who married William Phillips was born 1837. That would make her only 8 years old when she got married. I don't think that birthdate is right. So either Dicy has been hooked to the wrong George, or George and Mahala did have children before they were married. Is Mary a nickname for Mahala? Does anyone happen to know where this George and Mahala were in 1850? I would appreciate any info on these families. Thanks, Leslie

    3. Dear Leslie Ann, I don't have the "Register 1" you spoke of, but there is a great site (New River Notes) that has "Grayson County, Virginia Marriages 1793-1836" http://www.ls.net/~newriver/va/graymarr.htm Here are the only Quesenberry men that show up as getting married in Grayson Co during that era. QUESENBERRY, Amos, and Usley GOAD - 28 Aug 1832. QUESENBERRY, Frederick, and Mary HUFF - 3 Jul 1836. QUESENBERRY, Frederick, and Nancy BANKS - 15 Oct 1835. QUESENBERRY, George, and Matilda JENNINGS - 20 apr 1836. QUESENBERRY, George, and Joanna WEBB - 1 Feb 1836. QUESENBERRY, Tober, and Isabell GOAD - 15 Dec 1831. Now, instead of looking for one George -- you have two Georges. Then you have the additional (and slightly different) data that Julia at [email protected] sent you. Whew! I'm not sure whether that makes your quest easier or more difficult. In any event, good luck. 3. Julia, Are there any other details given for that Phillips marriage? Any other clues for me? I have a Randolph Phillips in my files md. to a Mary Cox 1822, with no children listed for them. I'm thinking this William was probably his son. This Randolph had a brother William that I show md. to Jenny Smith 1824, and among other siblings a brother John b. 1798. I don't show that he was a Rev. but I show John's son James J. Phillips with the title of Rev. so perhaps this was the Rev. John Phillips you mention. Anything else you can give me on this would be appreciated. 1. WILSON/ADAMS Families
    2. Harold Clupper
    3. Even though the following couple married in Surry Co., NC, I'm wondering if they lived across the line in VA since one of their sons was born there. Would you please check your materials for any record of this family. George WILSON married Mary ADAMS in Surry County, NC 10 JAN 1787. I'm trying to determine if they are the same family that moved to Indiana before 1808 from an unknown location and entered land in 1811. At that time this family consisted of George WILSON (1762-1844), spouse Mary (?-1856), sons John WILSON (b. 1788, VA) and William WILSON (b. 1792, NC), and daughter Rachel WILSON (b. 1809, IN). Other children, birthplace and date unknown, are Joseph, Margaret and Elizabeth. I would appreciate any information that might tend to prove (or disprove) the connection between these two families. Thank you for any info, Harold Clupper [email protected]
