    1. Felts/Burnett/Newman
    2. Barbara Gilman
    3. Greetings. I have been searching for information on my GGGrandmother, Adaline L. (or L. Adaline) Felts, born in Wood Lawn, Carroll Cty., VA on either Jan. 12 or Jan 19, 1849 (depending upon the record). She married Jabes(z) Burnett(e), and had several children before his death. She then married John A. Newman, who was previously married to Sallie (Sarah) Bowers. Adaline died on Sept. 22, 1936, also in Carroll Cty., VA, and was buried in the Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery on Sept. 23rd. I have encountered a major brick wall, however: her mother is listed on her death record as Phebin (Phoebe?) Felts, born in Carroll Cty., VA, with her father listed as unknown. It seems as if moving farther back will now be much more difficult, which is why I'm finally writing. This is made more troublesome by the fact that I cannot obtain a birth record on Adaline (born abt. four years before these records were kept). Also, I am thinking that records extending farther back than this would possibly be part of Grayson Cty. records. Here is what I have found, but I'm not sure if it is the correct "Phebe": I have located a Phebe Felts, age 22, enumerated in the 1850 Carroll Co Census, Page 57, with Jorden Felts, age 45 and Prudence Felts, age 40, along with 6 other children. There is also a Phebe Felts in the 1850 Rutherford Co Census (TN). Does anyone know anything of a "Phebe" or "Phebin" Felts? Also, does anyone know who her husband was? Is anyone familiar with Adaline Felts (Burnett) (Newman)? If this rings any bells for anyone out there, I would greatly appreciate a response. I would also love to locate living Felts relatives to correspond with. Thank you so much for your time, Barbara New Gilman

    3. I'm wondering if anyone has ever run across the same problem I have encountered. Jerome Sullins Byrd is listed in Jeff's Grayson County birth records as having been born in Grayson County, so there must be a record at the courthouse for him since the records are what Jeff based his book on. However, in both the 1900 and 1910 census records, Jerome is listed as having been born in Texas, and one Byrd researcher tells me he has him as having been born in Timbercreek, Hunt Co., TX. Has anyone run into this sort of thing before? Can anyone offer an explanation as to why Jerome would have appeared in Grayson birth records if he was born in TX, or why his birthplace would say TX in the census if he was born in Grayson? How can I determine where he was really born? Sue Dotson [email protected]

    1. John J. Wilson
    2. I am seeking information on John J. Wilson and wife Mollie A. who lived in Grayson Co. all of their lives. I need to find a marriage record to learn of Mollie's last name and the date of marriage. The 1900 census states they had been married 16 years which would have been about 1884. They had a daughter Virginia and all three are buried at Comer's Rock. I would greatly appreciate any info. Thanks, Becky Christiansen [email protected]

    1. New items on line at New River Notes 4/8/03
    2. Hi folks For those that might have an interest, have a couple of new things on New River Notes tonight (http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm) 1st. Ashe Co., NC Court Orders for 1809 by yours truly. These were sloppily done in the original, and I done went and done the best I could, but they aren't that great, but they is what they is. Click on Ashe Co. on the map to get there. 2nd. Rodney C. Rhudy, Roy and Marion Atkins sent along a survey of the Summerfield Methodist Church Cem. in Providence District, Grayson Co. This is a big cemetery, which dates from at least 1842, so it took a lot of work, and I appreciate it. This cemetery is done in three sections, so be aware that if you don't find who you are looking for in one section check the other two. It is organized alphabetically by section. Click on Grayson Co. on the map to get there.
