He is the son of Wm Sullivan & Susannah Powers. Lewis is the older brother of my g grandfather, David Sullivan. Lewis and David had other siblings named: Jordan; Shadric; Martin; Phoebe; Amos; and Wesley J. Sullivan. According to the 1880 census of Ashe Co, Piney Crk, Lewis Sullivan (age 43) was married to Phebe Sturgill and had two daughters named Vivalina and Nancy C.. I can't find him in the 1900. Then in the 1910 census of Grayson Co, VA, Wilson Crk Dist., Pond Mountain Rd--there is a Lewis Sullivan age 74 (m2) married 12 yrs to a Lucinda unknown, age 53--is this the same Lewis ? Does anyone know who the children are by either of his wives or who they married ? What was Lucinda's maiden name ? There were many Blevins and Farmer families as neighbors in the 1910 Sincerely grateful for any verification or additional information Dan in Oregon ULLIVAN
The obituary below was in the Galax Gazette online earlier this week. It says the parents were James Wright and Nolie Allen Sawyers. However, the obituary for his brother Virgil Clayton states the parents were Robert and Nolla Sawyers. The 1920 census has the father's name as "Robert I." and the 1930 census has his name as "Robert L." So does anyone know why this obituary has the father's name as "James Wright Sawyers"? Sue Dotson Buzzybee@prodigy.net Garland Wright Sawyers, 83 Garland Wright Sawyers, 83, of Galax, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Wythe County to James Wright and Nolie Allen Sawyers. Survivors include his wife, Frances Sawyers of Galax; a daughter and son-in-law, Drema and buck Crigger of Elk Creek; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Brenda Sawyers, Ricky and Phyllis Sawyers and Mike Sawyers, all of Galax; three sisters, Nirel Alley, Wanda Burnette and Frances Moxley, all of Galax; a brother, Swanson Sawyers of Galax; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Sunday at Monta Vista Cemetery. The Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy officiated. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

My son, who was a Johnson(gr grandfathr William from ENGLAND) who was engaged to a PAUL, whose folks were from WAYNE and she lives there now. She married an ALLEN from Xenia IL. We also had WHITESIDES & WHITECHURCH, HALBERT, MOORE, WOODS, and others, some from MONROE IL, some from ST.CLAIR. We also had WOODS from OH & IN. While not related to Rev. David Badgely, he is related to my sisters husband, who is a HAND/HANDY/HANDLEY/HADLEY. I have both HANDS & BADGELY, with VALENTINE back to early 1700's in NJ & NY. WRIGHT is on both my mom & dad's sides. Also COOK/KOCH. Joseph, Henry B. & Leonard came to IL in 1798 to New Design MONROE CO IL. Joseph & Henry moved to ST.CLAIR 1803. Joseph had sons, 4 best known are Abner, married 1st a PHILLIPS, Jacob, married Nancy COX, Conrad married a PHILLIPS, I think the 4th son was Henry C, I forget who he married, there were other sons also, and sisters, Phebe married a Wilderman, Sarah? married 1st Henry WILDERMAN, 2nd Robert Higgins, Hannah married a HIGGINS, another married a SMITH, . This was the 1st generation there through Joseph. I don't have Henry B.s family straight yet, and Conrads kids I have, and his daughter Mary married Nelson BARKER. Info on my broken computer. Some lived in Smithton. They also married POTTERS and THOMPSONS. The Fergusons, Anderson, Morris/Morrison, Temple, a few more Irish surnames, Tates, Bennet, and such came in the next generation I believe. We also have TERRELL which is sometimes translated from German Script as FERREL/FARRELL. I am sure I am fo! rgeting a few. Clorisa married John GARRISON, one of JACOB & Nancy Cox CARRS daughters married HALBERT, who married UNDERWOOD after she died. I know a few of Conrads boys went to WHITE/POPE/GALLITEN/HARDIN & FULTON CO.'s in there live-time. A couple were in Blackhawk Wars with WHITESIDES. I know HIGGINS & SMITH were in MARION & CLAY CO and I believe ended up in CRAWFORD, JASPER, and surrounding counties. Some in WABASH were Osborns and Breese went. Osborns were in NY & NJ with HANDS 1695. Also SYKES/SIKES, STITES, WRIGHT, STUBBS, and more. My computer is broke, and all my hard-copy is in storage as I live in 1 room now. Joseph Carr and his kids seem to be the most recognized. HAND ended up in Greenfield GREENE IL. Do any of these sound familiar? GINNY 2 at ginnynumbertwo@yahoo.com PLEASE USE THIS ADDRESS.
