    1. [VAGLOUCE-L] Re: Elmira Prison and Gloucester
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Belvin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hAC.2ACE/1098.1100 Message Board Post: My great-Grandfather, John Perrin Belvin, is listed as having been left sick at home in Gloucester in May of 1862 as the Union Army advanced. He is later listed by his unit, the 26th VA. Infantry, Co. F, as having deserted, since he never showed up again. On his Confederate Soldier's Pension application (its hard to read) is appears that he says he was captured. He did survive the war, and I am looking for records of his capture, and where he was sent. Do you have a way of finding out if he might have been at Elmira? I have been able to find nothing on the net concerning prisoners who survived Elmira. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
