Anyone familiar with genealogical research in Gloucster Co., VA knows that the destruction of practically all pre-Civil War records poses a very serious problem in researching families which resided there. I wish to pose a question to the subscribers of this list. Is it at all unusual to find few, perhaps no, records for a person, especially if they lived a short life, in Gloucester Co., VA during the colonial period, given the destruction of records? Fortunately, some families maintained family records which are preserved, but even some of the oldest Gloucester Co., VA families have meager public records to attest to their residence in the county.
