    1. [VAGLOUCE-L] Ranson/Ransom family of Cumberland Co.
    2. Edward S. Ayres
    3. I am trying to determine the ancestry of Ambrose Ranson of Cumberland Co. He was living in Goochland as early as 1744, presumably in the southern part that later became Cumberland Co. He was married to Catherine Keeble who was the daughter of Walter Keeble of Gloucester Co. Catherine died in 1761 and Ambrose's will was recorded in Cumberland Co. in 1762. In his will he names five sons (Flamstead, Ambrose [jr.], Robert, William, & Henry) and three daughters. He apparently owned land on Angola Creek, north of the Appomattox River. The last three sons remained in the Cumberland/Prince Edward area, Ambrose Jr. may have moved to Halifax Co., and Flamstead had moved to Buckingham Co. around 1786 and died there by 1796. His widow was Elizabeth (possibly Douglas or Perkins). Can anyone connect Ambrose Sr. with the Ranson/Ransoms of Gloucester and Mathews? I suspect there is a connection since his wife was from the area. I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. Ed Ayres
