He built New Point Lighthouse, and two others. He also apparently built many public buildings in the Tidewater, Virginia area. Twice, Mordecai Cooke's name shows up in records related to Elzy Burroughs. When Elzy applied to the U.S. Government to build New Point Light, Mordecai was one of three men who attested to his character as a neighbor and local builder in Gloucester Court House. When Elzy issued a deed for some land, Mordecai Cooke was one of the witnesses to the deed. I am not sure, of course, if this is the same Mordecai that you refer to here, but I am curious if you have seen anything in your search regarding the connection between these two men.
