Surnames: Meggs/Meigs Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hAC.2ACE/283.1 Message Board Post: Hi. Just ran across your posting. I have info, but no source information, that John T. died in Georgia. His son Stephen was born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama (again, no primary sources). Didn't know if that would help. Rumor in our branch has always been that a feud caused the spelling change. John's grandson, James spelled his name "Meggs", but James' son Andrew spelled it "Meigs". James died in the Civil War a Confederate soldier, so maybe they changed the spelling because of that? <just a thought>. Happy hunting.
Sorry I did not realize I had left the url off for the Roster. It can be found on the Gloucester County Records Page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vaglouce/glou_rec.html#revwar Jane G.
Thank you Jane for all your hard work. Can you please post the URL to where this list is. Thanx, Donna The Rev. War Roster is now complete thru "R" and Appendix "G". There is light at the end of the tunnel!!! Happy New Year!!!!! Jane G.

They had 6 children....some of which you have mentioned: Fielding Hogg, Richard Hogg JR, etc...it has not been proved, however Parish Records indicate, that Richard Hogg SR (B-1717 Gloucester Co VA) was a son out of the line of George Hogg who (the records indicate) was a son of the immigrant JOHN HOGG who had land in VA as early as 1653. The immigrant JOHN HOGG had three known children: John Hogg, JR; Mary Hogg; and William Hogg who had land in New Kent Co VA in 1704....my line of Hogg appears to be out of William Hogg but like you...we are trying to prove it. The name of Rankin connects to a line of my Hogg's....how do you connect?? Hope this was helpful....Take Care - Louise (louisehboss@aol.com)
