    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hAC.2ACE/627.679 Message Board Post: I think the Lemon Family of Gloucester should be recognized for their significant and continued contribution to the county. James Frank Lemon (1850-1936) was the son of John Lemon and Sarah Blueford. He was a part of a large family that included Rev. John C. Lemon. (Warning: There was another John and Sarah Lemon with a large family during the same period.) Frances Reed (1856-?), wife of James, was the daughter of Spencer and Mary Reed. She was also part of a large family that was listed in the Gloucester census beginning in 1870. In the 1880 Gloucester census, James Lemon and Frances Reed have a son, Franklin at age 6 years. This means his birth date was 1874. Either James Franklin Lemon was born prior to the 1886 date given previously, or James Franklin Lemon, Sr., had a previous marriage and another son named Franklin. Often the census, marriage, and death records are difficult to interpret, but the Lemon-Reed connections seems to be clear.

    3. Hello List: I just joined in the hopes that someone on this list can verify a entry on the site FamilySearch.com. The entry states that James TOMLINSON of Washington Co., VA is the son of Soloman TOMLINSON of Gloucester, VA.. James TOMLINSON first appears in Washington Co. when he pruchases land in 1809. We don't find him in a census until 1820. Jabiz TOMLINSON also purchases land in 1809 and first shows up in the 1820 census. The family connection of these two is yet unproven. I have been unable to find the parents of my James so was very excited to see this entry. Is there someone on this list that can supply me with the documentation for this entry? I am hoping the submitter to the FamilySearch site is also a subscriber of this list. Any help will be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. This has been a brickwall for years. 1. [VAGLOUCE-L] Any BROOKS connections?
    2. Joan Logan Brooks
    3. I am searching for any Gloucester Co. families that have ties to a BROOKS family in the late 1600s or early 1700s. I am looking for the parents of an ancestor, WILLIAM BROOKS, who probably was born ca. 1720-30. He shows up in Lunenburg Co. right after its establishment in 1746. I have been told that there was a William Brooks family in Gloucester Co. who had business or land dealings with a LEWIS family about 1700. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. Joan Logan Brooks

    1. [VAGLOUCE-L] Re: Old Place Name
    2. Jane Goodsell
    3. I may have asked this question before...in Petsworth district there was a place called "Scuffle town". I have an old survey (1847) of the property of Vernon Palmer and the road running North beside the property says "To the Dragon". The road running in the opposite direction runs South then South East says "To Scuffle town". This survey is not as descriptive as some I have seen, so I am not sure if the road is Turks Ferry Road or not. So, does anyone have any idea where Scuffle town was?? Also, does anyone have a list of any old place names that are not used now? Thanks, Jane
