    3. In this mornings Norfolk Newspaper, there was an article about the Confederate War submarine "Hunley" and a 75 year filing mistake on the part of the State Library in Richmond about information on the identity of one of the members of the Hunley's crew. This is not Gloucester or Mathews Co. information, but the story is interesting. http://www.pilotonline.com/news/nw0305hay.html Jane

Surnames: Booker/Wyatt/Fary/Row/ Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hAC.2ACE/1175.1 Message Board Post: Row/Rowe family - Thomas Fary ca. 1803 married Sarah Row ca 1806. Sarah's father was Major Thomas Rowe. She had a brother named James G. Row, Nancy Rowe who married Phillip Pierce and Tilly Rowe who married a Wilson. There is a possiblity that Major Thomas Rowe married an Elizabeth Gardner Nettles ca. 1809. If so, then the parents of Elizabeth Garner was James Gardner and (1st wife) Elizabeth Fields and (2) Mary ?. James Gardner had two brothers, Dr. Anthony Gardner and John Gardner. Does any of this look familiar - only the Fary-Row marriage is documented - the remainder is suposition and I would love to prove it. Catherine

Surnames: Porteous / Jennings / Downman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hAC.2ACE/992.999 Message Board Post: As stated by another poster, there is a lot of info about the Porteous (Porteus) family of Petsworth Psh., VA. Look in Hayden's book for them. They intermarried with Downman, Ball, Smith, and Jennngs families. Edward P. died at Violet Banks. His son Robert married Edmund Jennings' daughter following death of his first wife (Mildred Smith), by whom (latter) he had one son, ancestor of Queen Eliz. II. With his second wife, he and some of their children moved to York, Eng., for the betterment of their children. They had several more children in Eng., many of whom died early. Robert's father-in-law, Edmund Jennings (brother-in-law of "King" Carter, his enemy) and of Corbin and Lee families, inherited (by death of his eldest brother) the Jennings family title and estate in Yorkshire. Robert, his wife, and most of their children died in Eng. If I have misquoted here, I apologize as I am still trying to recover from a severe heart attack and thus do not have my binders or! sources at hand.
