In the Norfolk newspaper this am.......... >>The remains of an early well have been uncovered at Historic Jamestowne, a discovery that suggests the fort built when the first permanent English settlement in North America was founded in 1607 was twice as big as historians thought. Archaeologists and field school students digging this summer at the site, better known as Jamestown Island, were searching for the remains of the fort's west wall when they found the well instead. << For the rest of the story: http://www.pilotonline.com/breaking/br0903wel.html

In the Norfolk newspaper this morning, there is an article about some of the men that were on the "Monitor" when it sunk. It says: "Among the listings is one for Robert Cook (sic), of Gloucester County, who was probably a slave, an 18 year old black man who signed on for a three year term as ":first class boy" and served on the ship "until he drowned with the vessel on Dec. 31., 1862." The spelling of Cook, was probably a typo and should be spelled Cooke. Jane
