Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hAC.2ACE/1255.1 Message Board Post: Camden may not have been a place (name) in Gloucester. I have an map showing where old plantations were located and there is a listing for "Camden". It was located in the upper part of Gloucester Co., in the Petsworth Parish area. It is close to the Piankatank River, just off Rt. 198 between Highgate and Boxley plantations. If your 1712 map shows a river above Camden, then this may be the same place. Sometimes when people would move to another location, they would rename the new plantation with the same name as their former plantation. So, if there is an earlier Camden and not near water, I don't have a location for that one.

Does Gloucester hava a source births during this time period that survived the Civil War? If in a neighbouring Virginia County is there also a specific data source, or would I have to locate the individual church wards to locate this information. He appears in Gloucester on the Federal Census as early as 1830. Thank you, at this point I am grasping for straws...Stephen

    1. [VAGLOUCE-L] PULLIN, (Loftus, Loftis or Lofty) & Ann Jane USHER
    2. Hi!. I am researching the PULLIN family. I have a Loftus (and variants) PULLIN, born approximately 1718, place unknown. Loftus settled in present day Highland Co., VA in about 1745 (on a John Lewis/James Patton patent). He married Ann Jane USHER in about 1740 to 1750. Ann Jane had two sisters. Margaret USHER married William STUART and Martha USHER married Col. James DICKERSON. Their marriages were somewhere in VA but place and dates remain a mystery. Loftus died in 1802 as recorded in Bath Co., VA Will Book 1. Seeking any information on any of the above names. More specifically, the parents and siblings of Loftus, and as well, of Ann Jane. Any knowledge of immigration to the Virginia Colony or early VA by the PULLIN family would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!

Surnames: Sinclair, Mitchell, Booth Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hAC.2ACE/1226.2.2.1.2 Message Board Post: I have a portion of the book "The Sinclair Family in Virginia," and am researching the Sinclair/Booth connections. My section starts with Page 28, and I received it in the mail from a third cousin, Ann Willson. She is also researching the Sinclair line in Virginia. Jefferson Sinclair Selden, Jr. died in 1964, and the copyright on his book was 1964. "John Sinclair (1656-1720), married Sarah, daughter of Lawrence Smith." That Smith name makes it very 'interesting' to try and trace the family. I don't know how far down the line the next is, but here goes: "Margaret Munford Sinclair, born at "Shabby Hall," now known as "Sherwood," in 1825. Died in 1874 and buried at Sherwood cemetery in Gloucester County, VA. She married Thomas Buckner Booth, date unknown. Booth born 12-7-1798, at "Chelsea," now known as "Violet Bank" One of their children was John Sinclair Booth, born Feb. 8, 1859, who married Maggie E. Mitchell, sister of Forrest Jay Mitchell, who was my great grandfather. Please contact me?? Jo Yates - j.yates@prodigy.net

    3. Pat: I wish you were more specific on where you saw this information. But the "Marriages of Gloucester Co.," book says Smith Horseley married Elizabeth Horseley, March 17, 1859. He was 25 years, farmer, and son of John and Mary Riley Horseley. She was 24 years and the daughter of Kininham and Elizabeth Fendly Horseley. Jane Goodsell, CC Gloucester VaGenWeb

    2. I was looking at the Gloucester site the other night and found that someone had posted that one of my great grandmothers was the daughter of Smith Horseley and Elizabeth Riley I believe. Please can someone confirm this and where did this info come from. Anxious to hear if this is really true. Pat Scherzinger.
