    1. William Stuart 1818 Virginia
    2. Hi Rooters, I have been searching for over a year for the parents of my ancestor, William Stuart of Pulaski, Giles and Bland Counties in Virginia. I don't believe he moved from place to place, I think the counties kept changing their borders. He owned and operated a large grist mill in Mechanicsburg, Virginia. It is said that he was a cousin to General J. E. B. Stuart. I have now found a few more clues that I am hoping will help some of you recognize William as one of your relatives. I have found a second marriage where he stated his birthplace was Shenandoah, Virginia and his parents were S. Stuart and A. Stuart, both born VA. Can anyone tell me who S. and A. Stuart of Shenandoah were? William Stuart/Stewart/Steward was born 9/4/1818 in Shenandoah, VA. He married 1st on 1/5/1843 in Pulaski, VA. Margaret Ross Moyers/Meyers b. 8/3/1823. Their children were Frances Mary, Margaret Ana, Elizabeth Leslie, Samuel Morrison Burnside, John Alexander, Catherine Hermin, William Buchanan, Russell Dilman, Virginia Houston, Luther Leonidas, Peachie Harrison and James Isaac Stuart. Margaret died 8/13/1873 and William married 2nd in 1879 in Pulaski, VA., Amanda C. Hurst b. 12/1/1847. They had one son Bramblette, b. 1880. It has been said that William Stuart died 10/17/1881, but I have found no evidence of his death. Bland County has NO records for the year 1881. I have searched Bland, Pulaski and Giles records and found NO death. Amanda C. Stuart was listed as a widow and remarried in 1895. I would appreciate any information that you can share about William and his family. Thank you! Anne H. Bays (Richmond, Virginia)
