Sabrina, I couldn't find Sam Lawson in the 1880 census. I did find two Jesse Perkins, but I don't think either is the one you are looking for. In the 1860 census, there is a Jesse Perkins, 13 years old, living in the household of James Johnston. In the 1870 census, I found James Perkins, 46 & his wife Lucy, 40. They had 9 children; one was Jesse, 10. They were also in the 1880 census. James, 55 & Lucy, 40 (boy, would I like to know her secret for not aging!!!). At this time, they had 6 children at home, one was Jesse, 20. This info is from the census records recorded in the "Giles County, Virginia History - Families," Vol 2.
