Just wanted to let you all know what a special day June 5th will be to the Rowe relatives...with the help of Geneva Steele of Paynesville, there will be a dedication to Jacob H Rowe who served in the 39th Kentucky Volunteers Co D during the Civil War. Jacob H. Rowe is the forefather of the Rowe's in McDowell County. His children include: (1) James J. Rowe, (2) Mary Ann Rowe, (3) Reuben Harrison Rowe, (4) George W. Rowe, (5) William PS Rowe, (6) Victory Eveline Rowe, (7) Charles Haze Rowe, (8) Laura Bell Rowe, (9) Sarah L. Rowe, (10) Stephen Rowe, (11) Emily Frances Rowe, (12) Rutherford B. Hays Rowe, (13) Nancy Rowe and (14) Albert Garfield Rowe. Jacob's tombstone was recently discovered. At the dedication, a new Veterans Tombstone will take the place of the old sandstone tomb. None of this could have been done with the hard work and dedication from Geneva Steele! Below is a copy of an article that was taken out in several of the local papers. Rowe Receives Military Tombstone The American Legion Post 179 of Bradshaw, will be doing a Dedication Ceremony Satruday, June 5th at 2pm for Jacob H Rowe, a Civil War Veteran, at the Jacob H Rowe Cemetery located on Rockridge, near the head of Beartown. Jacob H Rowe was born 1833, the son of James Jacob and Sarah Diamond Rowe of Giles County, Va. He died April 9, 1911. He was married to Tabitha Sweeny. They lived in Pike County, KY and had 16 children. After the Civil War was over they moved to McDowell County, at the head of Beartown, some time in the late 1880's or 1890's. According to records at the Welch Court House, all of the children were married here in McDowell County. After 88 years, Jacob H. Rowe has received a miliatry tombstone with the help of his descendants: Heather Rowe of Euclid, Ohio; Sharon Rowe, from Michigan; Frankie Rowe, of Bradshaw; and Geneva Steele of Paynesville. Everyone is invited to share in our joy! Hope to see you there... Heather Rowe [email protected]
