Gary, Sorry to just now be getting back to you with this information. Time never went by this fast when I was a child! ;-) Last summer I acquired a copy of a 551 page book titled "Collins Family History Book, Virginia-Pennsylvania," by Judith Collins Welsh. When I last spoke to her in September/October, Judy's address was: 914 W. Charles Street, Coatesville, PA 19320. I will quote from Judy's book: Page 331, titled "Kelley/Kelly." "Early records show James O'Kelley born in Ireland. He came to the United States in the mid 1700's and settled in Pennsylvania. At this time he dropped the O from his name and then became known as Kelley. Records are vague concerning his wife's maiden name but it appears to have been Dow. They had 6 children who grew to adulthood." Please note that although 6 children are indicated the only son discussed here was "Jessee B. Kelley...the youngest and he was born in Pennsylvania in 1784. He married Lucy (Lucinda) Tillett on May 18, 1812 and they moved to Giles County, Virginia. On Page 332, Judy goes onto say, "I am not sure who wrote the above notes but I found the notes with the Kelly information I received." Page 334, "The following is a list of forefathers before Jessee Kelly/Kelley: Lawrence Kelley John Patrick Kelley Jonathan Kelley, 1760-1830 Sons of Jonathan Kelley: Pleasant C. Kelley - son - Pleasant, 1780-1851; John Kelley; Jesse Kelley 1784-1859; and Matthias Kelley" "Information on the Kelleys has been researched by Reverend Raymond Sidney Kelley of Eggleston, Virginia, great, great, grandson of Pleasant C. Kelley. A large majority of information on the Kelly family was given to (Judy) by Ez Ballard, Orlando, Florida, grandson of Sylvester Lafon at the July 17, 1993 Collins Reunion in Pembroke, VA." I would encourage you to contact Rev. Raymond S. Kelley. I know he is still alive because he officiated at my Great Aunt Roba Collins Day's funeral on January 10, 1999 in Pembroke. Let me know how you progress. Cara
