I've received the following which would support that Thomas Marshall Sr. married Mary Abbott. Furthermore, it exposes a new son of Thomas, William. Thomas testified 22 Aug 1815 Lee County that he and William Abbott he had witnessed the marriage of his son William to Sally ____ (probably Abbott) in July 1811. This places Thomas's death sometime after 1815 but before 1851 at which time Thomas' widow Mary relinquished her rights to his estate to Thomas Jr. Inasmuch as he still held land in Lee County up until his death, it seems reasonable to assume he died in VA. William Marshall b. bef. 1790 probably Giles Co. VA. Private in Capt. Jeremiah H. Neill's Company, Lee Co. Militia. Died 29 Oct 1814 of sickness during military service at Norfolk, VA. Married to Sally ?Abbott, July 1811 at Lee Co., VA. Marriage witnessed by Thomas Marshall and William Abbott. Children of William and Sally: 1) Betsy/Betty Marshall born 15 August 1812 at Lee Co., VA 2) William Marshall born 1 December 1814 at Lee Co., VA Thomas Sr. definitely had a son William (listed 24 July 1804 as a child of Thomas Marshall in Lee Co., Deed Book I, p. 295.). As one of youngest sons of Thomas Sr. he would seem to have been about the right age to be the above William. Surety Jacob Snidow. Sept 20, 1794." Here to fore, In the context I'd assumed that this was the 2nd wife of Thomas Marshall b. 1752 in Westmoreland Co who married Sallie Johnston b. 1752 d. 1790 in Culpeper, Va. However, I'm now believing that this was Thomas and Sallie's son Thomas. Can anyone shed any light on this> ==== VAMONTGO Mailing List ==== Remember to ALWAYS post messages to [email protected] even if you're subscribed in digest mode.
