I lived in the Maybroke area of Giles when I was born til the time I was 18years old. There is a creek that runs through Maybroke that is called Sinking Creek. I was told that it was called that because at points of the creek it goes under ground (sinks under). I also wanted to tell you I believe the area you are talking about is named Criag not Graig. -----Original Message----- From: Kushner <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, May 01, 1999 1:53 AM Subject: Sinking Creek VA >I'm researching KARR, WEBB and TAYLOR in Sinking Creek, Graig, VA. I'm researching KARR, WEBB and TAYLOR in Sinking Creek, Graig, VA. On the 1860 census it is called: The Valley of the Sinking Creek. Could someone tell me why and how it got this name? Bette
My Grandfather: Charlie Thomas Davis b. May 25, 1890 in Giles, VA - moved to IN. Had a brother named Cecil and several others. His parents were: Ben Davis and Francis Whittaker. Anything related?? If so I have a lot more information - Charlie had 15 children!! Julia Hagan [email protected]
Is anyone on this line? I haven't seen any activity at all since I subscribed. Here's what I'm looking for. JESSE DAVIS, b. 1808 in Giles Co., VA, m. Margaret GODFREY, daughter of Absalom and Mary Ellen Bailey. They moved to Mercer County (Mercer 1850 Census) and then into Wyoming County, VA (WVA). Children of Jesse and Margaret are: Hiram G, John W., Joshua P., Irwin W., William A., James B., Jesse A., Martha J., Nancy, Sarah, and Elvira. Does anyone know Jesse Davis's parents? From the 1810 Giles Census, I would guess the choices are William, Hiram or Linsey. Does anyone know who Jesse's siblings are? Kay Davis
I am trying to find out more about this Davis clan. This is as far back as I can go: JESSE DAVIS, b. 1808 in Giles Co., VA, m. Margaret GODFREY, daughter of Absalom and Mary Ellen Bailey. I am seeking the family of Harvey Meadows (b.1832) who married Sarah Boon (b.1834) and removed to Kanawha County. I have reason to suspect that they came from Giles County, but do not have the proof yet. Do any of your Meadows researchers have this couple or Harvey listed? Thank you. John

As I continued to look into the sky, I saw clouds forming on the skyline. Usually this would mean rain or bad weather but today was different... Little did I know but the day would unfold to reveal death, shock, sadness, and empty answers not to mention tremendous human suffering. As I proceeded to let the day unfold, a small a sparrow came and perched on my shoulder. It was small, clean, and very pretty. It was a little nervous and afraid but I could tell he really wanted to reach out to me. I did not pay much attention but quickly noticed it would follow me wherever I would go--no matter where I went, the sparrow was right by my side---AWESOME!!!! I thought---It was like God above had reached right down to the very depths of my soul and brought this new found friend to me...As the days slowly went by--we became the best of friends--we did everything together--he was waiting right where I left him the night before--I would watch him soar in the treetops and zoom to the ground--I was so lucky to call him my friend---well, then it happened, I could not find my friend anywhere--I looked in all of our favorite hiding places but he was not there:( I could not sleep that night and I lay awake but soon realized that it would be ok...I would have those tear stained memories of my sparrow to carry with me all the days of my life--if I was ever cold or lonely, or lost, or just needed a friend--I could think of my sparrow and make things better---God wrapped his arms around me and comforted me--he casually reminded me that he had kept his promise and that my sparrow was now with him--then I asked God " How could you really know how I feel to loose something I love so much"? Without hesitation God replied--" Well Bobby, it was not so long ago that I had my heart ripped out when I too had a child taken away when I sent my only son to die for your sins and look what good it did today in Colorado". I am not sure but I thought I heard him wimpering a cry and wiping away his own tears................... I hope you will take the time to hug your kids and loved ones today--tell them you love them and Thank God above that this terrible tragedy has not happened to any of us... Hi, Just wanted to let you know that VA Marriage records on Ancestry.com are available free for a few days more. There are two listings for a Madison H. Lucas but the marriages are not to a Link. There are about 60 listings for "Links" with many in Giles Co. You might like to look at http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search/3723.htm. Hi! During a recent trip to the Giles Co. Courthouse, I found documents insinuating that Mary Ann or Jane, the daughter of Christian Link, was the wife of Madison Lucas. This was news to me, and I didn't know for certain which Madison Lucas Lucas she was married to. I assume Madison H.? Does anyone have additional information about the union of Madison and Mary Ann or Jane Link?
