    2. There was no West Virginia in 1860. It did not become West Virginia until 1863.

    3. Nancy, There were and are many Altizer's in Montgomery and Floyd Counties, which are close to Giles. You also may want to check Monroe. If you find your HOBBS, let me know. 1. Clarks and related families
    2. Bill and Cindy
    3. Hello everyone, I'm part of a group of people, researching Clarks and all their related families. We've constructed 6 webpages giving (Direct Line Descendancy's) of the lines from which some of us descend and/or are researching. It's at http://members.tripod.com/ClarkCousins/ (Note: Many of us are cousins who have found each other online while researching Clarks.) If you're researching a Clark line, please drop by and see if we have any information on your Clark line. You might even be another cousin. If you only have one Clark in your family, you might want to drop by and try to find out if you're related to any of us. Keep in mind these are not complete charts, they contain only the basic direct line descendancy of that Clark researcher. If you feel you may have a connection to any of the lines, please contact us at [email protected] If your Clark line isn't there already, you can contribute your own Clark line for posting, if you like. It might help you find new family info or maybe even meet a cousin you never knew you had. 1. Re: Giles County
    2. Gasp! As a native of Giles County and a Southerner, I can tell you that Giles County was NEVER a part of West Virginia. Actually part of Monroe County was used to form Giles (unless it was Mercer County, but I think Monroe- I'm doing this from memory). Monroe and Mercer Counties are now in West Virginia. BUT that was in 1806, long before there was a West Virginia. Hope this clears things up for you. Mike Fletcher

    3. Yes, I have dates. Mary was born on April 5, 1899. Issac was born June 26,1893. They were married on July 31, 1916. Issac died on November 7,1964, and Mary died on February 25, 1967. I was just talking to my Mother today and she was saying she remembered Issac's Mother dying around Christmas and they buried her on Christmas Day. Thank you for taking time and looking this up for me. It will be a big help if I can get Mary's parents names. -----Original Message----- From: Pam Kerschner <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, May 30, 1999 8:40 PM Subject: Re: 1860 Giles County, Virginia Annotated Census >Brenda Cumbee, > >Do you have any dates on Mary Margaret Johnston >and Isaac Edward Conley? Elke I kind of concluded that "the old man" must be John Lybrook - thanks for confirming that. 1) Do you think that "Betsey" is Elizabeth? All the pieces seem to fit together, but I'm hesitant to make that assumption. 2) I'm curious as to the meaning of "spent considerable time dressing Betsey". Could that mean that Betsey had a fondness for clothing and her father, John (or someone else), gave her a lot of money for clothing? Thanks again, Rick Hunter
